Mechanical Technician
About the role
The Engineering Technician builds and tests complex mechanical and electrical systems in a cleanroom environment while supporting process improvements, engineering testing, lean initiatives, and quality enhancements. This role plays a key part in manufacturing advanced semiconductor equipment, solving technical issues, and contributing to the continuous improvement of products and production processes.
Responsibilities
- Build, assemble, and test complex electro-mechanical systems in accordance with established specifications and procedures.
- Produce products that meet defined quality standards and specifications, ensuring consistent workmanship and reliability.
- Observe, identify, and report recurring or ongoing issues in product construction or operation, and actively support problem resolution.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of products and processes by providing constructive feedback and ideas.
- Manufacture and deliver high-level, complex systems from assembly through final test, following documented procedures.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems that arise during assembly, testing, and operation of systems.
- Serve as a reference point for technical questions within your area of expertise and set a positive example for other team members.
- Oversee the complete process from assembly through testing to ensure smooth workflow and timely completion of production plans.
- Actively participate in pilot production and support the transition of new products into volume manufacturing.
- Help develop and improve technical product documentation (TPD), processes, records, and related production materials.
- Evaluate the impact of new procedures on existing production processes before implementation and provide recommendations.
- Generate constructive ideas for product and process improvements based on hands-on experience and test results.
- Acquire and maintain in-depth knowledge of new and existing products, sub-modules, and complete systems.
- Understand the relationship between individual modules, the full system, and other related subsystems to ensure proper integration.
- Share relevant technical expertise with colleagues to support knowledge transfer and team development.
- Support strong teamwork by actively participating in problem-solving, sharing ideas, and assisting with departmental tasks.
- Cook up and manage the use of tools, materials, and equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and organized operations.
- Use hand tools and other equipment safely and effectively for mechanical and electrical assembly work.
- Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives such as 5S, Kaizen, and other process optimization activities.
Essential Skills
- Hands-on mechanical assembly and testing experience with complex mechanical and electro-mechanical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Proficiency in using hand tools and basic mechanical tools for assembly, repair, and adjustment.
- Experience with electrical assembly, wiring, and basic electronics troubleshooting.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with both mechanical and electrical components.
- Experience with testing and troubleshooting using appropriate test equipment and inspection methods.
- Ability to work effectively in a cleanroom environment and follow strict procedures and protocols.
- Computer skills sufficient to work with documentation, records, and basic production or test software.
- Manufacturing, technical, or engineering-related experience, including internships or co-op roles.
- Education such as a diploma, certification, associate or bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Chemical, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience (degree preferred but not required).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Leverage lean manufacturing training, such as Intro to Lean, 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), or similar, to enhance problem-solving and process improvement.
- Gain experience in semiconductor or high-tech manufacturing environments to understand industry-specific challenges and solutions.
- Develop familiarity with prototype build, testing, and process improvement activities to stay ahead of industry trends.
- Master the ability to inspect assemblies and identify defects or nonconformities to ensure product quality.
- Enhance troubleshooting skills for both mechanical and electrical issues to address complex problems efficiently.
- Pass on relevant expertise to colleagues to foster a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment.
- Collaborate effectively as part of a cross-functional team to contribute ideas for product and process improvement.
- Organize activities according to production plans and manage tools, materials, and equipment effectively to streamline operations.
Work Environment
This role is based in a cleanroom environment within the semiconductor industry, working with advanced mechanical and electrical systems and specialized test equipment. The position follows a compressed workweek (CWW) schedule with 12-hour shifts. Day shifts (D1 and D2) run from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and night shifts (N1 and N2) run from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. D1 and N1 schedules typically cover Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday in Week 1, and Sunday through Wednesday (every other Wednesday) in Week 2. D2 and N2 schedules typically cover Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in Week 1, and Wednesday through Saturday (every other Wednesday) in Week 2. New hires complete approximately two weeks of training and orientation on a Monday–Friday schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. before transitioning to the CWW shifts. Day shift roles include daily overtime due to the 12-hour schedule, and night shift roles include a shift premium in addition to daily overtime. Pay And Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $26.00/hr.
