About the Role

The Mechanical Superintendent schedules, coordinates, and supervises maintenance and construction workers, providing on-site administrative and technical management. This non-exempt role reports to the Site Manager or Project Manager and involves establishing procedures for specific goals while developing processes within policy guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise total maintenance and/or construction effort to ensure projects align with design, budget, and schedule, including interfacing with client representatives.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise on-site functions such as scheduling, engineering, and material control.
  • Provide technical assistance, including interpretation of drawings.
  • Assist project management in developing and implementing project procedures and standards.
  • Ensure compliance with project procedures, safety programs, work rules, and company standards.
  • Create or update policies and procedures with plant or project management approval.
  • Document violations, notify project management, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Oversee productivity, efficient use of materials and equipment, and contractual performance.
  • Interpret company policies, enforce safety regulations, and resolve work-related problems.
  • Establish and adjust work sequences to meet construction schedules using knowledge of equipment and personnel capacities.
  • Perform additional assignments as directed by supervisors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of dirt work experience; landfill cell construction and closure experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license; TWIC preferred but not required.
  • Experience operating heavy yellow iron equipment (e.g., excavators, dozers, off-road trucks).
  • Proven leadership capabilities and experience managing people and crews.
  • Strong safety performance and communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction and basic knowledge of all crafts.
  • Advanced knowledge of key on-site crafts, including mechanical skills, soft skills, planning, and safety.
  • Highly developed leadership and mentorship skills.
  • Preferred: Turner Leadership Training.
  • Post-offer drug/alcohol screen, physical evaluation, and signed acceptance of Turner Industries’ Drug, Alcohol, and Contraband Policy.
  • Compliance with company and client job site safety requirements.
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace.

Physical Involvement

  • Climbing ladders, scaffolds, and structures above and below ground level.
  • Maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds, and structures.
  • Reaching in all directions, handling and manipulating objects and materials.
  • Coordinating eye, hand, and finger movements to operate tools and equipment.
  • Lifting 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead.
  • Carrying objects, tools, and equipment.
  • Standing, sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, crouching/squatting, and crawling.
  • Seeing and hearing with or without correction.
