Mechanical Rigging Foreman

About the Role

The Rigging Foreman is a top-level, hands-on "working" position responsible for leading work crews in lifting and moving materials and machines using power-operated equipment such as hoists, winches, cranes, and forklifts. This role typically works without supervision, requires long hours, and may include weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in rigging and lifting to ensure compliance with safety procedures and method statements.
  • Familiarize with heavy lift plans and procedures.
  • Assist in determining the proper method of lifting equipment for each assigned project.
  • Conduct basic loading of heavy lift projects by rigging customer equipment and ensuring proper use of equipment methods.
  • Direct crew to move equipment to and from work areas.
  • Optimize resources (manpower, equipment, and materials) to ensure efficient and timely project completion.
  • Ensure work crews are properly supplied with tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Prevent misuse of equipment, materials, and tools.
  • Read, interpret, and follow procedures, specifications, drawings, and other project documentation.
  • Maintain records of all work completed.
  • Specify locations for movement of machinery using knowledge of sliding and lifting methods.
  • Enforce strict compliance with all OSHA safety procedures, company rules, and regulations.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of rigging or heavy lift experience.
  • 2-3 years of Foreman experience.
  • Proficiency with basic computer skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of experience as a Foreman or Lead.
  • Safety training and certification.

Physical Demands

This role requires standing, walking, sitting, and standing for long periods, as well as the ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. Approximately 90% of the time is spent in external conditions, which may include temperature variance, elevated noise levels, dust, and fumes. Travel, including overnights, may be required.

Work Environment

The employee must wear appropriate PPE equipment and may occasionally be exposed to extreme temperatures, fumes, or airborne particles. The noise level in the workplace is moderate.
