About the role

We’re a leading global fitness company seeking a hands-on Mechanical Project Test Engineer to join our New Product Development (NPD) team. In this role, you will evaluate and resolve potential risk and failure areas through design analysis, use case studies, and historical data. You will establish test protocols, design and create test fixtures, execute tests, analyze data, and collaborate with the development team on outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed mechanical and key component design reviews to identify potential failure and risk areas.
  • Partner with related engineering functions on failure and risk analysis.
  • Develop and execute test plans to mitigate design and use risks.
  • Provide expertise in product safety review processes and apply regulatory and internal test standards.
  • Review and analyze product specifications.
  • Support the development team through the New Product Development process, ensuring completion of phase gate deliverables to company standards.
  • Engage in daily interaction with development teams on design and testing.
  • Develop test standards and procedures, and design hands-on test fixtures, set-ups, and related equipment.
  • Participate in product safety review processes.
  • Obtain and analyze field and user data, develop and execute test protocols for root cause analysis, and verify solutions.
  • Perform detailed design analysis using engineering mechanics, free-body diagrams (FBDs), FEA, fatigue analysis, and related tools.
  • Develop and review drawings, perform tolerance analysis, and create and review sample parts.
  • Support the transition of products into mass production by developing functional requirements and test plans.

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, or a similar field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of mechanical engineering experience.
  • Engineering experience with fitness products and strong fitness market knowledge (preferred).
  • Expertise in engineering mechanics and design analysis.
  • Proficiency in fixture design, test setup, air cylinders, load cells, electro-mechanical control systems, and data acquisition.
  • Strong skills in FEA, DFMEA, test plan development, and execution.
  • Demonstrable experience designing components for manufacturing processes including sheet metal, tube forming, machining, welding & joining, etc.
  • Thorough experience with 3D CAD and related design analysis tools (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups and individuals.
