About the role
Individuals in this classification perform engineering calculations and must be able to layout and design systems in accordance with established policies, standards, procedures, and codes. They exercise judgment in their application with minimal to no supervision, apply practical knowledge and experience to resolve project-related problems, and make independent decisions on engineering tasks. Occasionally, they may supervise subordinate personnel or assist other engineers or designers.
Responsibilities
- Perform engineering calculations and design systems in compliance with policies, standards, procedures, and codes.
- Apply practical knowledge and experience to resolve problems and conflicts on assigned projects.
- Exercise independent decision-making for engineering tasks.
- Supervise or assist subordinate personnel, engineers, or designers as needed.
- Demonstrate knowledge of discipline-specific and other building codes.
- Meet with the Project Engineer and Project Manager to discuss design scope, schedule, budget, phasing, site issues, and design review issues.
- Work with the Project Manager and Project Engineer to prepare design budgets and schedules.
- Estimate discipline man-hours required to complete project design requirements.
- Provide leadership and assign design job functions to designated designers, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Implement system types as selected by the Project Engineer and produce complete construction documents that meet client and project team requirements.
- Review preliminary and final engineering designs with other disciplines for function, clearances, coordination, and final design selection.
- Perform final reviews of engineering drawings.
- Maintain client contact and perform quality assurance on projects in coordination with the technical manager or project engineer.
- Mentor and motivate Engineering Designers I, II, and III.
- Set high standards, maintain professional integrity, and act in the best interest of the company and client.
- Meet fast-paced deadlines while maintaining quality design.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum of 8 years of work experience.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
