About the role
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. This team ensures the cloud runs smoothly by supporting all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that keep customers connected to innovation. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles, collaborating across AWS to deliver high standards for safety, security, and seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost.
As a Mechanical Engineer, you’ll become part of a global data center engineering team responsible for designing and innovating within our rapidly expanding data center footprint. This position can be based in Seattle, Washington or Herndon, Virginia. You’ll take full ownership of designing resilient, cost-effective mechanical systems, driving continuous advancements, and communicating technical direction to senior management. Your work will enhance reliability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness while collaborating with internal and external partners, including manufacturers, vendors, and contractors.
Responsibilities
- Work in a cross-disciplinary setting, influencing and driving others to achieve deep and far-reaching impact on product design and solutions.
- Advise peer engineers and the management team on technical decisions.
- Perform deep dives and root cause analysis to resolve complex issues.
- Make technical trade-offs between short-term project goals and long-term business needs.
- Develop integrated systems to extend the life of data center infrastructure products.
- Simplify, optimize, and lower costs of data center mechanical and associated sub-components.
- Define and design liquid cooling equipment and related infrastructure.
- Collaborate with internal and external ecosystem partners to design and develop new data center product solutions.
- Support field engineering and data center operation teams in root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Leverage economy of scale through standardization and modularization of data center products.
- Maintain and develop technical design procedures for piping and pipe support analysis.
- Provide technical subject matter expertise to peers, senior management, and partner teams.
- Develop business justifications and narratives to promote new concepts and ideas.
- Lead key initiatives for the organization while demonstrating ownership.
- Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify mechanical and associated sub-components.
- Provide product design support to other team members.
- Write functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
- Travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the year.
Requirements
- 4+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience.
- 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission-critical facilities, including data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment and facilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer License.
- Experience with building codes and regulations for your region.
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.

Pay
The base salary range for this position is $116,800.00 - $160,000.00 USD annually, depending on experience, qualifications, and location. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments, restricted stock units (RSUs), and comprehensive benefits.
