Mechanical Product Design Engineer, Data Center Eng, Mech Products and Services
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on challenging problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain and collaborate with a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles.
About the role
As a Mechanical Engineer on our global data center engineering team, you will take full ownership of designing resilient, cost-effective mechanical systems for our rapidly expanding data center footprint. You will drive continuous advancements and improvements, communicate technical direction to senior management, and enhance the reliability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness of our engineering designs. This role can be based in Seattle, Washington or Herndon, Virginia.
Responsibilities
- Work in a cross-disciplinary setting with the ability to influence and drive others, impacting overall product design and solutions.
- Advise peer engineers and the management team through deep-dive analysis and root cause investigations.
- Make technical trade-offs between short-term project goals and long-term business needs.
- Develop integrated systems to extend the life of data center infrastructure products.
- Simplify, optimize, and lower costs of data center mechanical and associated sub-components.
- Define and design liquid cooling equipment and related infrastructure.
- Collaborate with internal and external ecosystem partners to design and develop new data center product solutions.
- Support field engineering and data center operation teams in root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Leverage economy of scale through standardization and modularization of data center products.
- Maintain and develop technical design procedures for piping and pipe support analysis.
- Provide technical subject matter expertise to peers, senior management, and partner teams.
- Develop business justifications and narratives to promote new concepts and ideas.
- Lead key initiatives for the organization while demonstrating ownership.
- Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify mechanical and associated sub-components.
- Provide product design support to other team members, including writing functional specifications, design verification plans, and test procedures.
- Travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the year.
Requirements
- 4+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience.
- 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission-critical facilities (e.g., data centers, power generation, or oil and gas).
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment and facilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer License.
- Experience with building codes and regulations for your region.
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production.
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.

Pay
The base salary range for this position is:
- USA, GA, Atlanta: $116,800 - $160,000 USD annually.
- USA, OH, Columbus: $116,800 - $160,000 USD annually.
- USA, TX, Austin: $116,800 - $160,000 USD annually.
- USA, VA, Herndon: $116,800 - $160,000 USD annually.
- USA, WA, Seattle: $116,800 - $160,000 USD annually.
Your compensation package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
