About the role
The Mechanical Process Technician will play a crucial role in developing innovative technology at the forefront of the aluminum industry. This role involves assisting with equipment operation, process development, and R&D experiments.
Responsibilities
- Leading and executing tasks including material batching, material handling, and equipment operation and maintenance.
- Preparing and testing samples for chemical composition and physical properties using laboratory analytical equipment.
- Developing and maintaining safe work instructions and adhering to Alcoa's EHS best practices.
- Operating overhead cranes, forklifts, and other mobile equipment.
- Coordinating activities related to projects, ensuring documentation, schedule, and metrics are met.
- Executing designed experiments, recording and analyzing data, and communicating results and observations to the team.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Strong aptitude in a skilled trade such as mechanical, electrical, automotive, HVAC, carpentry, welding, or plumbing.
- At least 2 years of work experience in an industrial environment with emphasis on material handling.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented and learning environment.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to develop, recommend, and implement innovative procedures to solve problems.
- Demonstrate strong safety focus according to Alcoa's EHS standards, protocols, and tools.
- Ability to train and work with resources within and outside the program team.
- Proficient computer skills: MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Project, JMP, MS Access, or other database.
- Strong documentation, organization, and analytical skills for data management, analysis, and results presentation.
Qualifications
- Strong mechanical aptitude to work independently and lead teams for equipment disassembly, repair, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to coordinate activities related to projects and ensure documentation, schedule, and metrics are met.
- Experience operating overhead cranes, forklifts, and other mobile equipment.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including rotating 12-hour shifts.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to train and work with resources within and outside the program team.
- Strong documentation, organization, and analytical skills for data management, analysis, and results presentation.
