Mechanical Piping Designer
About the role
This role involves providing 3D piping and equipment designs for retrofit, environmental, and new generation projects. You will work closely with engineers and designers of various disciplines to ensure safe, effective, and efficient designs, applying applicable codes and standards in work situations.
Responsibilities
- Provide 3D piping and equipment designs for various projects.
- Produce 2D orthographic and isometric drawings, P&IDs, and pipe support designs.
- Collaborate with engineers and designers to ensure safe and efficient designs.
- Apply applicable codes and standards in work situations.
- Gather field data to support the development of deliverables.
- Prepare material take-offs and select appropriate piping components.
- Lead multi-discipline technical teams on projects.
- Review and develop general arrangements.
Requirements
- 10+ years of related experience.
- Intermediate design experience in mechanical piping systems.
- Proficiency in 3D modeling tools for piping system layout and designs.
- Experience with Autodesk Plant 3D design tool.
- Experience in producing 2D orthographic and isometric drawings and P&IDs.
- Knowledge of pipe/material and valve selection.
- Experience in multi-concurrent large projects.
- Ability to work with minimal instruction and self-motivation.
- Organizational skills and experience with construction support.
Additional Qualifications
- Experience related to power generation or heavy industrial facilities.
- Experience checking design drawings and documents.
- Ability to build effective relationships with plant staff, design engineering staff, and vendors.
Work Environment
The position offers a hybrid work environment with a tentative schedule of three days minimum in the office per week and two days remote. Driving may entail some travel, possibly up to three days out of the office in a week, to plants or job sites within the region.
This is a contract position based out of Birmingham, AL.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
