About the role

The Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering at Portland State University invites local, qualified candidates to serve as adjunct instructors in the following specialty areas: Design & Manufacturing and Thermal & Fluids Science. These are part-time positions.

Responsibilities

  • Teach one or more of the following courses: Engineering and Applied Science EAS 215: Dynamics Mechanical Engineering ME 120: Introduction to Engineering ME 121: Introduction to Systems and Control ME 122: Introduction to Design ME 250: Geometric Modeling ME 313: Analysis of Mechanical Components ME 314: Anlys/Dsgn Mach Elem ME 320: Fluid Mechanics ME 321: Engr Thermodynamics ME 322: Applied Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics ME 323: Heat Transfer ME 351: Vibrations and System Dynamics ME 421/521: Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning Design Fundamentals ME 422/522: Building Energy Use Modeling ME 445/545: Advanced Topics in Thermal and Fluid Science ME 450/550: Adv. Solid Modeling ME 455/555: Finite Element Mod/Analysis ME 465/565: Adv Finite Element Appl ME 474/574: 3D Printing, Rapid Prototyping, Additive Manufacturing ME 477/577: Intro Semiconductors ME 481/581: Mechanical Tolerancing

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a closely related field. Work experience and/or teaching experience aligned with course content may be used in lieu of degree, at the Department’s discretion. Must live in Oregon or Washington
  • Previous teaching experience, preferred. PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a closely related field, preferred.

Compensation

Adjuncts are paid per credit hour, and are hired on either a per term or an academic year basis, per the AFT Collective Bargaining Agreement.
