About the role
The Frederick National Laboratory is operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. The lab focuses on addressing urgent biomedical science problems in cancer and AIDS, drug development, first-in-human clinical trials, nanotechnology applications, and rapid response to infectious disease threats.
Responsibilities
- Assemble, install, and test machines to ensure they are working correctly.
- Examine equipment in operation to determine if adjustments or repairs are needed.
- Install a variety of laboratory machinery and equipment as required.
- Perform preventive maintenance to identify and correct potential issues including removing worn out pieces and lubricating mechanical parts.
- Maintain vacuum pumps, air compressors, air handlers and a variety of industrial equipment using basic mechanical principles.
- Disassemble and repair a variety of industrial equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints and work orders to complete assigned tasks.
- Follow standard practices and craft techniques in installing, maintaining, and repairing industrial equipment.
- Work independently using standard trade techniques.
- Respond to after-hours emergency repair requirements (subject to 24-hour call-in for emergency repairs).
- Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures.
Requirements
- Possession of high school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of five (5) years of mechanical-related experience.
- Working knowledge of mechanical technical skills to allow them to effectively read documents such as specifications, machine manuals, and blueprints.
- Proficient in troubleshooting techniques to solve machine issues.
- Mathematical skills and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to be a team player due to constant interactions with similar employees and stakeholders such as Engineers, Managers, and Part Vendors, amongst others.
- Must have the ability to routinely lift and carry up to 50 lbs.; climb stairs and ladders; work involves bending, stooping, and working in confined areas; potential exposure to particulates, vapors, or noisy environment.
- Must have and maintain a valid State Driver's License issued by the state in which the candidate resides. Must have no more than 3 demerit points in the previous twelve (12) months or five (5) demerit points in the preceding thirty-six (36) months as determined by the Leidos Biomed Use of Government Owned or Leased Vehicles Policy.
- Experience with construction safety practices.
- Must be available to respond to occasional after-hours emergency repair needs, including participation in an infrequent 24-hour on-call rotation.

Pay and Benefits
The posted pay range for this job is $54,100.00 - $79,715.00 USD. Additional factors such as responsibilities, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and market data, may influence the actual salary offered.
