Mechanical Maintenance Mechanics

About the role

Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) is seeking Mechanical Maintenance Mechanics to be based in Aiken, SC on the Savannah River Site (SRS).

Responsibilities

• Installs and performs maintenance on basic mechanical equipment.
• Assists with performance of moderately complex maintenance tasks or mechanical equipment under close supervision.
• Attends classroom, on-the-job, and other assigned training.
• Completes work orders.
• Follows/complies with applicable safety, radiological control policies and procedures, and site lockout/tagout program.
• Assembles mechanical apparatus from material and parts following instructions.
• Performs routine mechanical tasks such as painting, tool crib custodian, basic carpentry, safety inspections, carpet installation, ceiling tile installation, repacking valves, and minor piping repair.
• Assists more experienced mechanics with the installation, inspection and maintenance of moderately complex mechanical equipment, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, and allied equipment.
• Operates motorized vehicles and associated equipment within licensing limits.
• Performs ancillary rigging of equipment.
• Successfully completes classroom, on-the-job training, lectures, seminars and other forms of training.
• Maintains the physical requirements for the essential job duties, which may include being able to lift/handle 50 pounds, climbing, bending, twisting, exposure to extreme temperatures, wearing protective clothing/equipment (including respiratory) and meeting radiological control (RCI) requirements.
• Performs administrative functions such as reading, reviewing and understanding manuals and procedures.
• Performs clerical activities as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Skills Assessment Tests results from ACT or WIN

• Graphic Literacy (formerly Locating Information) minimum score = 4
• Work Place Document (formerly Reading for Information) minimum score = 4
• Workplace Observation minimum score = 2

• Locating Information minimum score = 4
• Reading for Information minimum score = 4

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience/training consistent with the duties outlined above (e.g. HVAC/refrigeration, construction, equipment repair, auto repair)
• Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent
• Calculate dimensions or tolerances, using instruments, such as micrometers or vernier calipers.
• Machine parts to specifications, using machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
• Set up, adjust, or operate basic or specialized machine tools used to perform precision machining operations.
• Program computers or electronic instruments, such as numerically controlled machine tools.

Pay

$32.58/Hr. Exceptions to this range/rate may be applied on a case-by-case basis taking into account aspects such as education, experience, and skill need of the organization.
