Mechanical Intern - New York - Summer 2027
About the role
Buro Happold is seeking a motivated and collaborative Mechanical Intern to join our team and contribute to innovative and sustainable engineering solutions. As a Mechanical Intern, you will work alongside some of the brightest minds in the industry, gaining hands-on experience while contributing to impactful projects that shape communities, advance sustainability, and support the global effort to address climate change. You will learn about HVAC systems and collaborate with architects and other engineers to develop creative, energy‑efficient buildings that provide aesthetics to their physical surroundings and utility to their occupants.
Responsibilities
- Embrace the latest technologies to improve performance and sustainability
- Assist performing detailed HVAC engineering building services design and calculations
- Take part in the preparation of technical drawings, schedules, and reports
- Collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams and with senior engineers
- Ensure service and project work are carried out to an excellent standard
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering preferred; however, candidates pursuing related engineering degrees such as Civil, Environmental or Sanitary Engineering are encouraged to apply
- Coursework in mechanical/HVAC design, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and/or thermodynamics
- Internship experience at an engineering‑related firm preferred, and proven interest in the built environment
Skills
- Ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas in an accessible manner
- Eagerness to learn and work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Familiarity with BIM modeling software, such as Revit and AutoCAD, a plus

Pay
Hourly rate of $24 to $34 per hour depending on level of education and geographic location
