Mechanical Insulator

About the role

The Insulator will be responsible for applying, removing, and repairing insulation on industrial equipment, pipes, ductwork, or other mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

• Regular attendance at assigned location that may include office or other project sites
• Insulate building, tanks, vessels, boilers, stream, and hot water pipes, and cold or chilled water pipes
• Measure and cut insulation for covering surfaces, using tape measures, handsaws, knives, and scissors
• Determine amounts and selects required insulation material (in sheet, tubular, or roll form)
• Cover, seal, or finish insulated surfaces or access holes with metal jacketing, plastic covers, canvas strips, sealants, tapes, cement, or mastic
• Fit insulation around obstructions, and shape insulating materials and protective coverings as required
• Prepare surfaces for insulation application by brushing or spreading on adhesives, cement, or asphalt, or by attaching metal pins to surface
• Cover or seal insulation to structure according to type of insulation used and structure covered
• Install sheet metal around insulated equipment to protect the insulation from weather damage
• Perform additional duties as directed by job site foreman, project managers, and supervisors

• Follow plans and instructions from supervisors or more experienced workers
• Strict adherence to all safety rules and quality
• Interact with all co-workers and clients in an attentive courteous manner
• At times may perform clerical/administrative duties
• Ability to read and interpret a variety of instructions written, oral, diagram or schedule form
• Ability to read and interpret the safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and manual

Requirements

• High School Diploma or relevant field experience
• 3-5 years of experience as an Industrial Mechanical Insulator is preferred
• OSHA 10 certification
• Understanding and development of daily Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)
• Industrial insulation experience preferred
