Mechanical Functional Lead

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of 5-10 Mechanical Engineers and Designers.
• Establish department priorities, strategic initiatives, and design objectives.
• Recruit and hire technical personnel as needed.
• Coordinate employee training and professional development plans.
• Monitor individual and team performance and establish key performance indicators.
• Assign design resources to project engineering teams based on project timelines and workload.
• Review mechanical drawings, 2D/3D models, and designs for compliance with specifications, standards, regulations, and internal processes.
• Develop mechanical systems designs for custom marine vessels.
• Integrate commercial equipment and components into custom vessel designs.
• Design custom mechanical and electrical system solutions.
• Act as an engineering authority when communicating with external parties regarding technical issues and initiatives.
• Support production teams and resolve mechanical design issues.
• Develop and standardize engineering processes, systems, equipment, tools, and technical guidance.
• Lead continuous process improvement initiatives.
• Maintain and update stock models and drawings using lessons learned and future design improvements.
• Collaborate with Functional Leads, Project Engineers, and engineering leadership to coordinate department priorities.
• Monitor design quality to minimize production issues and warranty claims.
• Support customer satisfaction through effective mechanical system design and technical problem resolution.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in the marine industry.
• Demonstrated personnel management experience.
• Experience with 2D and 3D design of mechanical and/or electrical systems.
• Experience developing technical documentation and technical data products.
• Familiarity with marine classification and regulatory standards, including ISO, ABS, DNV, USCG, and ABYC.
• Experience with AutoCAD.
• Experience with SolidWorks.
• Experience with Rhino.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Project, and Outlook.
• Strong technical leadership and personnel management skills.
• U.S. citizenship required due to government contract requirements.
