About the role

As a Mechanical Foreman, you will lead and coordinate a crew responsible for the installation of process equipment and the installation, fabrication, and repair of mechanical piping systems on industrial construction projects, including water/wastewater treatment, data center, semiconductor, power generation and storage, and mining facilities. You will be responsible for directing daily field operations, enforcing safety and quality standards, and ensuring your crew's work is completed on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with project specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Crew Leadership: Supervise, direct, and coordinate the daily activities of pipe fitters, welders, and mechanical helpers to ensure productive and efficient execution of assigned work.
  • Plan and Schedule Work: Read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, P&IDs, and specifications to plan the sequence, layout, and manpower needs for piping and equipment installation.
  • Piping Installation: Oversee pipe fitting, welding, grooving, flanging, threading, solvent welding, fusion, and other installation methods, ensuring proper alignment, elevation, slope, supports, and tolerances.
  • Equipment Installation & Startup: Coordinate equipment receiving, inspection, storage, setting, and rigging with crane operators and other trades; verify elevations, alignment, and connection points; oversee leveling, shimming, grouting, and anchoring; and support pre-startup checks, commissioning, and mechanical completion with the Superintendent, QA/QC, and vendors.
  • Quality Control: Inspect crew's work for compliance with project specifications, codes, and RMCI quality standards; coordinate hydrostatic and pressure testing, flushing, and inspections to identify and correct deficiencies before startup.
  • Safety Leadership: Enforce jobsite safety policies and procedures, conduct daily toolbox talks and pre-task planning, ensure proper PPE and qualified crew assignments, and correct unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Manpower & Productivity: Track crew hours, productivity, and progress against schedule; identify and resolve issues that could impact production or timelines.
  • Material & Equipment Coordination: Coordinate with project management and procurement to ensure materials, tools, and equipment are available and protected from damage throughout construction.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate daily reports, timecards, material usage logs, and other required project documentation.
  • Training & Mentorship: Train, mentor, and evaluate crew members, supporting their development and reinforcing company standards and procedures.
  • Coordination: Communicate and coordinate with other foremen, superintendents, and trades to ensure work is properly sequenced and conflicts are resolved in the field.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 5+ years of mechanical piping and process equipment installation experience, with demonstrated Foreman or Lead experience preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Strong working knowledge of pipe fitting, fabrication, and process equipment installation, including rigging, leveling, alignment, and anchoring; ability to calculate pipe measurements, offsets, elevations, and slopes.
  • Blueprint Reading: Ability to read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, P&IDs, and specifications.
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead, direct, and motivate a crew while maintaining accountability for safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot field issues and make sound decisions to keep work progressing safely and efficiently.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with crew, project management, and other trades.
  • Certifications: OSHA 30 required.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to perform and oversee physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials and working in various positions and environments.

Work environment

  • Work is typically performed indoors and outdoors at construction sites and industrial facilities, involving exposure to noise, dust, and varying weather conditions.
  • Schedule may include overtime, weekends, and irregular hours based on project deadlines and requirements.
