Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America, Inc. (MHIA) is seeking a Mechanical Field Service Engineer, Apprentice to join their team. This is a remote opportunity.
Scope
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America Corrugating Machinery Division (CMD) serves the packaging industry with leading edge equipment systems, sales, parts, technical and field support.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist Field Service Engineers in responding to customer support requests.
- Observe and practice diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues in corrugating and box-making machines.
- Support disassembly, inspection, and repair processes under supervision.
- Train alongside experienced technicians to interpret prints, specifications, manuals, and work orders.
- Participate in the setup and installation of new equipment, including coordination with riggers and millwrights.
- Learn to install electrical and hydraulic connections, perform leveling and alignment checks, and verify machine operation.
- Shadow technicians during operator training sessions to understand machine functionality and maintenance procedures; assist with supervised training activities.
- Absorb and document service activities, including photos and detailed descriptions of work performed.
- Report equipment issues, material needs, or safety concerns to supervising technicians or management.
- Engage in structured learning activities, including technical training modules and performance evaluations.
- Support operations as needed to maintain workflow and meet schedules and quality standards.
- Arrange travel for assigned customer site visits, including flight, lodging, and rental car reservations, in accordance with company policy.
- Prepare and submit documentation for invoicing and expenses per established procedures.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of hands-on mechanical experience, such as Diesel Mechanic, Automotive Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Technician, or similar position.
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and industrial equipment.
- Experience with basic mechanical troubleshooting, fluid systems, and equipment repair.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and repair mechanical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and service manuals.
- Prior technical school, vocational training, or military training in mechanical, automotive, diesel, or industrial maintenance preferred.
- ASE certifications or equivalent mechanical certifications preferred.

Working Conditions
- Travel: High volume business travel nationwide with little to no advance notice.
- Working Hours: Work will be performed at the request of the customer, anytime including day or night hours. High volume weekend work activity.
- Lifting/physical requirements: Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, and kneel for long periods. Required to walk, talk and/or hear. Frequently lift and/or move 30-50 pounds.
Compensation & Benefits
As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay range for this position is $19.48 to $24.36 per hour. The actual compensation offered may vary based on factors such as the candidate’s experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity. This range is subject to change over time.
