Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Field Engineer / QA-QC professional to support construction of a large, complex mission-critical facility. This position will serve as an onsite technical resource working closely with contractors and the engineering/design team to help maintain construction quality, resolve field issues, and keep the project moving efficiently. This is a hands-on field position rather than a traditional desk-based design engineering role. The ideal candidate has significant experience with large chiller/refrigeration systems and hydronic piping distribution and is comfortable reviewing construction installations against drawings, specifications, and design intent.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide onsite mechanical construction and QA/QC support.
- Review mechanical installations for compliance with drawings, specifications, and design intent.
- Identify installation deficiencies, constructability concerns, and field conditions requiring resolution.
- Work directly with contractors to evaluate and address field issues.
- Interpret mechanical construction drawings, specifications, P&IDs, and related documentation.
- Support installation and verification of chillers, pumps, hydronic piping, valves, and associated mechanical systems.
- Assist with pressure testing, flushing, TAB, startup, commissioning, and system turnover activities.
- Document field observations, quality concerns, and corrective actions.
- Resolve appropriate field issues independently and promptly escalate design-related matters to the Engineer of Record/design team.
- Coordinate with other disciplines to address MEP installation and interface issues.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of relevant mechanical construction, engineering, commissioning, or QA/QC experience.
- Significant experience with large refrigeration/chiller systems and hydronic piping distribution required.
- Strong understanding of chilled-water plants, chillers, pumps, valves, large-bore piping, and mechanical equipment installation.
- Experience reviewing mechanical drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and construction documentation.
- Strong field construction and contractor coordination experience.
- Demonstrated ability to identify QA/QC issues and evaluate installations against project requirements.
- Ability to work independently and make sound field decisions within assigned authority.
- Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Data center or power-generation experience strongly preferred; other large, complex infrastructure experience will be considered.
- Engineering degree preferred but not required with significant relevant field experience.
