Mechanical Engineering Tech II

Long Prairie Packing Company LLC, an American Foods Group Company, is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Technician II. Using principles and theories of mechanical engineering and working under the direction of the lead engineer, you will support machinery and equipment operations.

Responsibilities

• Read and review blueprints, schematics, and project designs to determine test specifications and procedures.
• Investigate and evaluate machinery and equipment to diagnose faulty operation and report conclusions to the lead engineer.
• Analyze test results related to design or rated specifications and make modifications as necessary.
• Repair, rework, or calibrate hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Use tools ranging from precision measuring instruments and electrical/electronic testing devices to common hand tools.
• Perform maintenance to keep machines, machine parts, mechanical or electrical equipment, wiring, structures, or building systems in repair.
• Tasks include pipe fitting, insulating, welding, plumbing, machining, aligning, balancing, assembling, disassembling, reassembling, installing, maintaining, replacing, connecting, disconnecting, repairing, testing, inspecting, operating, diagnosing, troubleshooting, cleaning, lubricating, adjusting, replacing parts, setup, teardown, carpentry, and routine or preventative maintenance.
• Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools (hammers, hoists, saws, drills, screwdrivers, wrenches) to precision measuring instruments and electrical/electronic testing devices.
• Identify and locate parts/part numbers from machinery or equipment manuals or parts catalogs (e.g., Cryovac, overhead chains, rail switches, conveyors, saws).
• Perform basic welding (primarily TIG; some MIG and stick) and identify good and bad welds.
• Support the lead engineer in designing plans for routine preventive maintenance (e.g., grease bearings, lubricate, check fluid levels, replace filters).
• Assemble, disassemble, repair, or replace defective equipment or parts (e.g., change belts, gearboxes).
• Perform basic hydraulics (e.g., change motors, make hoses).
• Complete necessary paperwork (PM sheets, work orders).
• Assist in performing maintenance on scale equipment (e.g., portable, floor, and matrix hot/cold).
• Review wiring diagrams and engineering plans for assembling and installing electrical and electronic units.
• Ensure adherence to design specifications and applicable codes and standards.
• Install electrical parts and hardware using soldering equipment and hand tools.
• Perform basic forklift maintenance (change tires, replace bushings).
• Perform all job functions safely in accordance with food safety and quality standards.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Two years of practical and theoretical knowledge/experience in mechanical engineering, which may be obtained through coursework, certifications, technical training, work experience, or a combination of on-the-job experience and formal education.
• Prior experience using hand and power tools, precision measuring tools, and the ability to read and work from drawings and blueprints.
• Ability to work in a variety of environments (warm, hot, humid, cold, wet, or slippery surfaces) at varied heights around moving equipment and parts while using personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Ability to work extended scheduled hours Monday through Saturday with daily overtime as required.
• Must successfully complete training in:

  • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP)
  • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Food Defense
  • Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs)
  • Lock Out Tag Out
  • Forklift and Pallet Jack operation

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior maintenance experience in a USDA-inspected beef, pork, or poultry facility.
• Work history in the last 12 months.
• 6 months of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.

Skills

• Knowledge of and ability to perform basic welding (primarily TIG; some MIG and stick).
• Ability to identify good and bad welds.

Pay

Base hourly range of $23.60 - $25.60 per hour.

Schedule

• Extended scheduled hours Monday through Saturday with daily overtime.
• Start times and hours vary based on production needs.
