Mechanical Engineering Project Manager

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end project delivery, balancing scope, schedule, budget, and quality across multiple projects and practices.
  • Develop, mentor, and lead high-performing engineering teams, fostering talent growth and collaboration.
  • Own client relationships by facilitating vision sessions, understanding project goals, and serving as a trusted advisor throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Direct multidisciplinary coordination across architectural, civil, mechanical, electrical, and structural disciplines to ensure cohesive project execution.
  • Define and manage project strategy, including scope development, goal setting, timelines, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure strong financial performance by managing billing, invoicing, and resource planning for assigned projects.
  • Elevate quality standards through QA/QC reviews of designs, engineering calculations, and methodologies.
  • Contribute to business development by supporting proposal preparation and engaging with clients on new opportunities.
  • Review heating and cooling load calculations and ventilation calculations to validate system performance and design assumptions.
  • Guide hydronic, air system, and process engineering design to deliver efficient and reliable building systems.
  • Oversee mechanical room layouts to optimize efficiency, functionality, and maintainability.
  • Evaluate and recommend optimal mechanical and building system solutions based on project requirements and constraints.
  • Lead fire protection design efforts, including hydraulic calculations and sprinkler system layouts.
  • Ensure seamless coordination and integration across all building systems to deliver cohesive and constructible designs.
  • Support grant application processes by providing engineering scope, technical input, and documentation as needed.

Requirements

  • Project management experience in engineering environments, with responsibility for scope, schedule, budget, and quality.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience in building systems.
  • Specific depth of expertise in mechanical building systems engineering (BSE).
  • Experience with plumbing and fire suppression systems, considered highly desirable.
  • Strong command of building systems engineering principles across multiple disciplines.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously without compromising quality or deadlines.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD for design and documentation.
  • Proficiency with Revit for building information modeling and coordination.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite for communication, analysis, and documentation.
  • Professional engineering licensure (required).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Master's degree in Engineering or a related field is beneficial.
  • Professional licensure in engineering.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to foster innovation and creative problem-solving.
  • Strong client-facing communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience contributing to proposal development and business growth activities.
  • Experience supporting grant application processes related to engineering scope.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $100,000.00 - $165,000.00/yr. Work Environment

This role offers flexibility in primary work location, with the individual able to sit in Charlotte, NC or Greenville, SC. Secondary location options include Greensboro, NC and Raleigh, NC. The position involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and frequent coordination across architectural, civil, mechanical, electrical, and structural disciplines, using tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office Suite to support project delivery and communication.
