About the role
The Manager of Mechanical Engineering position at Formlabs is seeking an experienced individual who can lead and develop our rapidly growing team of talented mechanical engineers. This role involves working on the entire life cycle of products, from initial sketches to final ECOs, and driving the team to hit program milestones.
Responsibilities
- Spend most of your time being an active contributor in product development
- Help the team navigate design tradeoffs and ship the industry's best products
- Constantly question product assumptions and help scope mechanical engineering work to a finely focused edge
- Drive the team to hit program milestones, provide input to program schedules, and actively work with cross-functional leaders to develop products more efficiently
- Hire the best engineers and help them reach their highest potential
- Constantly improve the results and outputs of the mechanical engineering function
- Influence product strategy
- Influence how Hardware Engineering functions holistically
Requirements
We are looking for someone who:
- Wants to build the best team in the 3D printing industry
- Knows how to help engineers reach their highest potential
- Is an expert in the design and production of complex mechanical systems
- Has shipped multiple products, taking them from concept through production
- Communicates fluidly across technical domains
- Is impatient with inertia and knows how to block and tackle for their team
- Is ready to dive into unfamiliar territory and problem-solve like crazy
- Ties technical work to customer value
- Is ready to influence product strategy and the overall hardware engineering function
Qualifications
- Expertise in mechanical engineering
- Experience managing a team of mechanical engineers
- Proven track record of shipping multiple products
- Ability to communicate effectively across technical domains
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills
- Passion for innovation and a desire to push boundaries

Pay
The Annual Base Pay Range For This Role Is $160,000—$280,000 USD.
