About the Role

The Mechanical Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a team of mechanical engineers in the design, development, and continuous improvement of access control and automatic door systems. As a Mechanical Engineering Manager, you will oversee New Product Development (NPD), Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE), quality improvements, and engineering tool enhancements while fostering an engaged, inclusive, and high-performing team culture.

What You Will Do

  • Leadership & Resource Alignment: Lead, coach, and mentor the mechanical engineering and configuration teams. Perform data-driven manpower planning and strategic resource alignment to ensure capacity is focused on high-value business priorities while driving team engagement (Gallup, DE&I, 5S).
  • NPD, VAVE & Accelerated Velocity: Oversee New Product Development (NPD), legacy product updates (e.g., Dura-Storm), and VAVE initiatives. Instill a bias for action to streamline Phase & Gate readiness, design reviews (MEDR/IDR), and time-to-market.
  • Configuration Management & Engineering Change: Direct the engineering change process (ECN/MCN/CIB) and manage configuration resources to resolve legacy product data issues. Audit 3D models, drawings, and Part-Centric structures to ensure accurate data alignment across Windchill, ERP, and cutsheets.
  • Radical End-to-End Accountability: Champion "cradle-to-grave" ownership by leading cross-functional Tiger Teams to rapidly resolve Problem Reports (PRs), field escalations, and complex manufacturing/installation issues (including large-scale Transit projects).
  • Tools, Data & Innovation: Manage and optimize enterprise engineering tools (Allegion Atlas/Windchill, ERP) and drive Part-Centric rollouts. Promote innovation and act as a force multiplier by leveraging advanced tools like FEA, 3D printing, and AI (AlleGPT).
  • Supply Chain & Cost Optimization: Collaborate with Global Supply Management (GSM) to drive productivity, onboard new suppliers, evaluate PPAP documentation, and optimize product designs for manufacturability, installation, and service.

What You Need To Succeed

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (Master's preferred) with 5+ years of engineering experience, including a proven track record in a leadership, talent development, or managerial role.
  • Technical & Configuration Proficiency: High proficiency in 3D CAD software (Creo preferred) and PLM/ERP systems (Windchill/Microsoft Dynamics D365), with a strong understanding of engineering change processes (ECN/MCN), ERP configurators, and BOM management.
  • Product & Manufacturing Knowledge: Extensive experience executing New Product Development (NPD) and Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE), with familiarity in manufacturing processes (aluminum extrusions, castings, finishing). Experience with electro-mechanical systems is a plus.
  • Problem Solving & Cross-Functional Leadership: Excellent structured problem-solving skills (5-Why, 8D, Root-Cause Analysis) with the ability to lead cross-functional Tiger Teams and take uncompromising ownership of issue resolution across departmental borders.
  • Strategic Execution & Resource Management: Demonstrated ability to perform manpower planning, develop business cases, and strategically align engineering and configuration resources to maximize team performance, efficiency, and ROI.
  • Communication & Culture: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a passion for fostering an inclusive workplace, driving team engagement, and instilling a definitive sense of urgency across the organization.
