Mechanical Engineering Manager
About the role
This role leads the development and delivery of complex mechanical products from initial concept through full-scale production. The Manager of Mechanical Engineering owns mechanical design across the entire product lifecycle and ensures that solutions meet performance, quality, safety, cost, and regulatory expectations. The position focuses on building and guiding a high-performing engineering team, managing technical risk, and collaborating with cross-functional partners to deliver reliable, high-quality capital equipment and complex machinery on schedule.
Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end mechanical design and development of complex products, from concept through production release.
- Own mechanical design decisions across the full product lifecycle, ensuring designs meet performance, quality, safety, cost, and regulatory requirements.
- Build, develop, and manage a strong mechanical engineering team, with a focus on people development, coaching, and performance management.
- Guide the team in creating robust mechanical designs for capital equipment and other complex machinery used in manufacturing environments.
- Manage technical risks by identifying potential issues early, evaluating trade-offs, and implementing mitigation plans.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, operations, and other engineering disciplines, to ensure successful product delivery.
- Ensure designs are manufacturable and support efficient production processes in a manufacturing environment.
- Oversee the use of mechanical design tools, including SolidWorks, to develop detailed models, assemblies, and drawings.
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, tools, and standards to enhance product quality and development efficiency.
- Support product introduction and production ramp-up by resolving mechanical design issues and coordinating with manufacturing teams.
- Travel as needed, approximately 10% of the time, to support team activities, supplier interactions, and manufacturing or product deployment needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 8+ years of mechanical engineering experience.
- At least 5 years of experience in people development and management within an engineering organization.
- Strong mechanical engineering expertise in the design and development of capital equipment or other complex machinery.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment, supporting the development and design of equipment for production use.
- Proven experience contributing to mechanical design across multiple phases of the product development lifecycle, from concept through production.
- Proficiency with mechanical design tools, including SolidWorks.
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills in an engineering context.
- Ability to manage technical risk and make sound engineering decisions that balance performance, quality, safety, cost, and regulatory requirements.
- Flexibility and ability to travel approximately 10% of the time.

Work Environment
This role operates in a collaborative engineering and manufacturing environment focused on designing and delivering complex capital equipment and mechanical systems. The Manager of Mechanical Engineering works closely with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing and other engineering disciplines, to support products through all phases of development and production. The position relies on modern mechanical design tools such as SolidWorks and involves approximately 10% travel to support team collaboration, supplier visits, and manufacturing or product deployment activities.
This is a permanent, fully onsite position based in Horsham, PA.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $128,000 - $188,000 per year.
