Mechanical Engineering Leader

Job Scope

The Mechanical Engineering Leader is responsible for supervising and directing a team of engineers, ensuring the timely, cost-effective, and quality delivery of mechanical deliverables and services.

Primary Responsibilities

• Review and approve all mechanical deliverables.
• Validate professional services and construction estimates at the start of projects and track changes throughout.
• Perform engineering activities like stress analysis, construction specifications, material procurement specifications, calculations, and piping estimates.
• Develop professional service estimates in line with department standards.
• Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine the most efficient approach to engineering tasks.
• Establish design criteria, incorporate client requirements, and ensure compliance with applicable standards and codes.
• Ensure requirements for permits are established and communicated to the project team.
• Initiate timely change notices if deviations affect the project's schedule, deliverables, or costs.
• Plan and organize work, communicate plans to the team, leadership, and client.
• Maintain project control by tracking performance budget progress, schedules, and quality standards.
• Utilize project control tools and delegate work to engineers based on their skills and experience.
• Consult with design leaders from other disciplines and follow up on their progress.
• Produce detail design calculations and sketches for materials of construction.
• Check calculations made by other engineers for accuracy and adherence to codes, specifications, and good engineering practices.
• Develop construction specifications and monitor drawings for conformance to design calculations and specifications.
• Resolve routine layout and detailing problems and provide sufficient sketches and details for drawing completion.
• Prepare bid packages for procurement of equipment, materials, or subcontract pricing.
• Participate in training programs and professional development.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
• Professional Engineering registration highly preferred.
• 10+ years of mechanical engineering and management experience.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Design standards and codes.
• Piping materials knowledge and application.
• Sizing of compressible fluid piping systems.
• Flexibility and stress analysis of piping systems.
• Manual valve sizing, use, and application.
• Safety valves and devices identification.
• Steam traps and liquid drainers identification.
• Other disciplines' deliverable development coordination.
• Schedule constraints and information requirements for mechanical deliverables.
• Able to accurately estimate task completion.
• Able to develop construction cost estimates, detailed engineering schedules, and man-hour budgets.
• Able to determine construction material quantities.
• Ability to create accurate mechanical installation documents from vendor equipment drawings.
• Ability to develop mechanical installation specifications.
• Experience in estimating and scheduling professional service hours and assessing mechanical work quality.
• Knowledge and application of Hargrove engineering design and CAD drafting standards.
• Leadership and ability to lead a small team.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Excellent virtual team skills and cross-divisional relationships.
