Mechanical Engineering Intern

About the role
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to support the Spent Fuel Handling Project team. This role will collaborate with engineers and designers from Idaho Falls and other Amentum offices to complete technical portions of projects.
Responsibilities
- Research and prepare responses to RFIs and submittals from contractors.
- Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting (up to 20 lbs. for supplies, drawings, etc.).
- Hand manipulation required for simple grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
- Occasional work above or below shoulder level for supplies.
- Must remain alert to equipment in the field; occasional travel required.
- Work near construction job site equipment, hazardous machinery, and uneven ground.
- Exposure to dust, gas, fumes, noise, temperature/humidity extremes, and potential work at heights.
Requirements
- Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Mechanical design experience (preferred) and knowledge of engineering principles.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Self-starter with motivation to accomplish tasks.
- Ability to follow established Amentum quality procedures.
- Competent using Microsoft Office software.
- Ability to work onsite at Idaho National Lab daily if needed.
- US citizenship required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug and background check.
- Must work in a team atmosphere and demonstrate professional behavior.
- Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and not impose safety risks.

Pay
$20.00 - $28.00 per hour. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws.
