Mechanical Engineering Expert — AI Content Specialist About The Role We're partnering with the world's leading AI research labs to build smarter, more technically rigorous AI models — and we need mechanical engineers who know their stuff to make it happen. As a Mechanical Engineering Expert, you'll be on the front lines of AI development: designing complex engineering problems, authoring authoritative solutions, and auditing AI reasoning across fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, structural mechanics, and more. Your expertise will directly shape how the next generation of AI models thinks through real engineering challenges. This is a fully remote, flexible contract role — work on your schedule, contribute at the level that suits you, and make a genuine impact on cutting-edge technology. Organization: AlignerrType: Hourly ContractLocation: RemoteCommitment: 10–40 hours/week What You'll Do Design Advanced Engineering Problems — Craft challenging, domain-specific problems across FEA (Finite Element Analysis), heat transfer, kinematics, fluid dynamics, and material science to stress-test AI performanceAuthor Ground-Truth Solutions — Develop rigorous, step-by-step technical solutions and "golden responses" that serve as benchmarks for AI learning and evaluationAudit AI Reasoning — Evaluate AI-generated outputs including CAD logic, thermodynamic proofs, and material specifications for technical accuracy, safety, and compliance with engineering standards (e.g., ASME, ISO)Identify and Fix Reasoning Failures — Pinpoint logical errors in AI outputs — such as incorrect force distributions, energy conservation violations, or flawed kinematic assumptions — and provide structured feedback to improve model reasoningDocument Failure Modes — Systematically record how and why AI models fail on specific problem types to help research teams harden model performance Who You Are Advanced Degree — Master's (pursuing or completed) or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related disciplineStrong Domain Knowledge — Deep foundational expertise in one or more core areas: solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing processesClear Technical Communicator — Able to explain complex physical phenomena and mathematical reasoning in precise, well-structured written formDetail-Oriented — High precision when reviewing mathematical derivations, unit conversions, dimensional analysis, and physical system constraintsNo prior AI experience required — if you know mechanical engineering, we'll handle the rest Nice to Have Experience with data annotation, data quality assessment, or evaluation workflowsFamiliarity with engineering software such as SolidWorks, MATLAB, or ANSYS — especially for evaluating AI-generated code or simulation workflowsBackground in academic research, technical writing, or engineering education Why Join Us Work on genuinely cutting-edge AI projects alongside top research labs and AI teamsFully remote and asynchronous — work when and where it suits youFreelance flexibility: set your own hours, maintain full autonomyGain rare, first-hand exposure to how advanced large language models (LLMs) are trained and evaluatedCollaborate with a global community of technical experts and researchersPotential for ongoing work and contract extension as projects evolve
