About the role
The Mechanical Controls group within Fleet Ballistic Missiles (FBM) at Lockheed Martin designs and supports the systems that control the missile before and after boost. As an Engineer in the Post Boost Control System (PBCS) Integrated Product Team (IPT), you will collaborate in a team environment and represent the PBCS IPT with Navy partners, Lockheed Martin leadership, and suppliers. This role serves as the Responsible System Engineer (RSE) Delegate for the PBCS, acting as the single technical point of contact for the entire subsystem and its components, ensuring continuity, traceability, and accountability throughout the product lifecycle.
The RSE Delegate is responsible for the technical integrity, performance, and mission success of the PBCS, balancing technical performance against cost and schedule pressures. You will report to the FBM Controls PBCS Manager and Chief Systems Engineer, providing technical oversight of the Trident II (D5LE2) PBCS throughout its lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical expert for the D5LE2 PBCS, verifying compliance with subsystem requirements.
- Act as the technical advocate for the D5LE2 PBCS, gathering performance information, supporting major reviews, and participating in critical design and production decisions.
- Participate in problem investigations, troubleshooting, and development of corrective action plans.
- Integrate technical requirements with facility and fleet operations, including new development efforts for Columbia and Dreadnought class SSBNs.
- Maintain a complete understanding of program-unique and Space Command media to ensure PBCS meets technical requirements throughout its lifecycle.
- Ensure technical integrity of the D5 PBCS, including compatibility across interfacing subsystems (e.g., Launcher, Guidance, and SSBN).
- Lead projects with teams and suppliers, understanding customer needs and presenting to senior leadership.
Requirements
- Experience working with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and cross-functional teams to create and execute program plans.
- Experience successfully leading projects with teams and suppliers.
- Experience understanding customer needs and participating in Customer Value Propositions or similar initiatives.
- Ability to create and deliver presentations to internal senior leaders, such as Directors.
- Active or ability to gain a DoD security clearance.
Desired Skills
- Missile and/or aerospace-related education or experience.
- Experience with missile and/or space propulsion hardware or subsystems.
- Familiarity with FBM processes and products.
- Aerospace manufacturing experience.
- Experience in gas/fluid dynamics or energetics/propellants.
- Experience as a principal engineer delegate or project lead.
- Risk and opportunity management with an understanding of continuous improvement concepts.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated leadership, and initiative.
Pay
Full-Time Salary Range: $118,000 - $219,100. Salary is determined based on scope, responsibilities, candidate experience, education, skills, and market considerations.
