About the role

The Power global practice at Burns & McDonnell is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer for their Honolulu office. The role involves designing and constructing power generation facilities, including fossil, hydrogen, solar, nuclear, and energy storage projects.

Responsibilities

  • Create world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments.
  • Work with project teams throughout the design and construction process, adapting mechanical plans according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs.
  • Design mechanical systems and select components for project needs and requirements.
  • Prepare mechanical equipment specifications and data sheets, RFQs, technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
  • Review mechanical equipment vendor drawings; interface with suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines, detailers, and designers.
  • Apply strong knowledge of mechanical engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures.
  • Research and compile project-related data as required by project managers.
  • Quality review and update production drawings for various projects and project-related data to ensure corrections are made within multiple CAD-related software.
  • Coordinate with field personnel to resolve design-related installation issues, perform calculations, conduct field inspections, and test mechanical systems.
  • Compile information for client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration for the design of power generating facilities.
  • Communicate with electrical, structural, and civil engineers for efficient project coordination.
  • Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program.
  • May have a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering may substitute for 1 year of experience.
  • 3 years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in consulting.
  • Successful completion of the FE or EIT exam preferred.
  • Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrate critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Strong computer skills include AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), 3D Rendering Programs, hydraulic analysis, and HVAC analysis programs.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Pay

$105,000.00 - $160,000.00 yearly. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including individual education, qualifications, prior work experience, and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.

Schedule

Full-time. Travel: Yes, 25% of the time.
