About the role

The Mechanical Engineer at Aero Simulation, Inc. (ASI) is responsible for the mechanical design of simulated training devices. This role requires a minimum of three years of practical experience using parametric modeling and analysis software, preferably SolidWorks. Key responsibilities include working closely with Systems and Electrical Engineering, designing and modifying designs to meet specified functional and performance requirements, and creating and presenting designs to support customer meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Systems and Electrical Engineering to gather a comprehensive view for the design and development of new training systems in accordance with Government/Industry standards and Customer specifications
  • Review, evaluate, research, and design to contractual specifications
  • Create or modify designs that meet the specified functional and performance requirements
  • Produce mechanical designs and details that are manufacturable, ergonomic, reliable, and maintainable
  • Create new parts, assemblies, and drawings in SolidWorks
  • Work with and mentor mechanical engineers and drafters of multiple levels to develop comprehensive and cohesive mechanical designs
  • Create and present mechanical material to support customer meetings including requirement reviews, design reviews, and physical configuration audits
  • Support manufacturing in the form of resolving design and documentation issues during production phases, and documenting changes by creating engineering change documents
  • Communicate effectively and work closely with the mechanical CAD team to generate detail, assembly, installation, modification drawings
  • Assist with preparation and cost estimation of new proposals
  • Oversee assembly, modifications, and installations of your design
  • Review designs for future enhancements

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of practical experience using parametric modeling and analysis software, preferably SolidWorks
  • Experience specifying proper manufacturing processes for new design fabrication including machining, welding, and sheet metal fabrication
  • Experience with detailed mechanical mechanism design including specifying bearings, gears, pullies, press fits, tolerancing, motors, couplings, and fasteners
  • Knowledge of welding, machining, sheet metal, composite, 3D printing, fastening, manufacturing / fabrication processes, and finite element analysis
  • Knowledge and experience with simulators or simulator industry
  • Knowledge and proficiency with AutoCAD software
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to interface with both internal and external customers at all levels
  • Adaptability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously, ensuring stakeholder expectations are managed appropriately
  • Self-starter who will design and resolve problems effectively and efficiently
  • Proficiency in common business software (Microsoft Office – Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint, Visio)
  • Ability to work with project teams to successfully deliver new or modified functionalities
  • Keen attention to detail to deliver solutions that meet business requirements and are operationally supportable

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering -or- 10 Years of Experience in Related Field -or- Combination of Education and Experience
  • U.S. Citizenship Required: As a federal contractor supporting the U.S. warfighter, it is required that all employees in this role be United States citizens in compliance with government contract and security requirements.
  • Background Check: Must be able to successfully pass an initial background screening.
  • Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain an active Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.
