Job Description

This position supports an initiative to provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity through a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites. As a Tooling Engineer, you will be instrumental in the program's progression from research and development through design validation and into full-scale production. You will develop, design, and implement custom tooling and equipment for the assembly and testing of satellites, translating team requests into user-friendly, cost-effective, and precise systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, design, analyze, and implement custom tooling and equipment for satellite assembly and testing (QTP/ATP).
  • Convert requests from various teams into systems that are easy to use, cost-effective, and accurate.
  • Manage projects, including cost estimation and scheduling.
  • Oversee and support the fabrication, testing, and commissioning of tooling into the manufacturing environment.
  • Work in a highly collaborative environment, addressing problems that span a variety of domains.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, or relevant experience.
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience with CAD Design of complex systems including 3D modeling, drawings, and GD&T. 1+ years of experience in structural analysis, including hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis. 1+ years of experience with project management, scheduling, and budgeting.

Qualifications

  • Citizenship: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Strong background in the design of mechanisms, bolted and welded structures, assembly fixtures, alignment fixtures, test fixtures, rigging, and material handling.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals.
  • Design analysis experience with stiffness/strength, structural dynamics, weldments, and bolted structures.
  • Experience designing tooling solutions for aerospace hardware.
  • Practical knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials used in assembly tooling and rapid prototyping.
  • Experience with NX 3D modeling package and Simcenter 3D FEA simulation.
  • Laser tracking experience is a plus.
  • Formal training/certification in Operational Excellence Systems (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.) is a plus.
