Responsibilities
- Develop packaging concepts, structural designs, and detailed specifications for consumer electronics devices from early concept through mass production.
- Create and maintain CAD models, engineering drawings, and dielines for retail packaging components such as corrugated cartons, folding cartons, inserts, and trays.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Sustainability, Graphic Design, and Supplier Quality teams to deliver packaging solutions.
- Partner with domestic and international packaging suppliers on design development, material selection, prototyping, tooling, and production readiness.
- Manage the creation and updates of Bill of Materials (BOM) in PLM systems for packaging components across product builds.
- Plan and execute packaging validation testing per ISTA and specific test protocols; analyze results and implement design revisions as necessary.
- Support pack-out activities and provide on-site engineering support during build events.
- Generate and maintain packaging specifications, dimensional drawings, and material callouts.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction, material optimization, and sustainability improvements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or related field.
- 3+ years of professional experience in structural packaging design and development for consumer electronics or similar industries.
- Proficiency with CAD/CAM software such as ArtiosCAD, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD.
- Experience with retail packaging materials and manufacturing processes.
- Working knowledge of ISTA and/or ASTM packaging test protocols.
- Experience managing packaging through product development lifecycles from concept to mass production.
Essential Skills
- Experience in consumer electronics packaging at a major OEM or contract manufacturer.
- Familiarity with PLM/BOM systems like Agile or Windchill.
- Knowledge of sustainable packaging materials and design-for-recyclability.
- Experience with packaging for global markets including regional labeling, regulatory, and localization requirements.
- Strong vendor management skills with international packaging suppliers.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
