Mechanical Engineer III

About the Role

The Mechanical Engineer III performs advanced design and analysis work to support various projects and may act as a discipline lead, managing internal and external resources.

Responsibilities

• Develops broad knowledge of industrial piping design principles and skills in a specific practice area.
• Evaluates, selects, and applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria for conventional projects with few complex features.
• Uses judgment to adapt methods for non-routine aspects of assignments.
• Works on small projects or portions of large projects, performing moderate design tasks.
• Coordinates tasks and work with entry-level engineers, designers, or administrative staff.
• Assists in preparing and managing scope, budget, and schedule for projects or assignments.
• Prepares portions of project documents.
• Creates or modifies equipment specifications, communicates with equipment suppliers, and technically evaluates critical pieces and packages of industrial equipment.
• Checks work for constructability, interferences, operational safety, and overall quality assurance.
• Receives instruction on specific objectives and direction on unconventional or complex problems.
• Assists with project management, client, and customer contacts and communication.
• Performs other related duties as directed.

Requirements

• BS in Engineering required; MS degree preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
• 5+ years of related engineering experience with industrial equipment and industrial piping systems.
• Strong skill set in understanding PFDs and P&IDs; knowledge of industrial equipment, equipment packages, and selection of valves and other piping specialty components.
• Working knowledge of CAESAR II, AutoPipe, or similar software is preferred.
• Design experience in NFPA 59A, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, and ASME Section VIII is strongly preferred.
• Ability to understand client specifications, procurement, commissioning, start-up standards, documentation, practices, and vendor data approvals.
• Excellent listening, oral, and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously under time-sensitive deadlines.
• Proactive approach and consistently positive demeanor.
• Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
• Occasional travel and overtime may be required.
