Mechanical Engineer II (Maritime System Focused)
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Enclosure and Rack Design: Design and develop equipment racks and shipboard enclosures to military specifications (Mil-Spec) for submarine and surface ship applications.
- Electronic Packaging: Design equipment drawers and integrated electronic assemblies, including the mounting and layout of high-precision sensors and electronics.
- Interconnect Systems: Lead the design and documentation of specialized connectors and cable assemblies for maritime deployment.
- Analysis and Modeling: Perform Thermal Analysis to ensure proper heat dissipation and conduct stress tests to analyze structural integrity and data.
- Design Visualization: Prepare required design sketches, layouts, and schematics as part of a collaborative design team.
- Standards Compliance: Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics while ensuring all designs conform to engineering and performance specifications.
- CAD/CAM Utilization: Use Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) for design data processing, modeling, and simulation to turn concepts into products.
- Qualification Support: Prepare equipment and documentation for Environmental Qualification Testing (EQT) to verify performance in extreme conditions.
- Lifecycle Engineering: Research, design, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical products, equipment, and systems to meet requirements.
- Root Cause Analysis: Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and recommend design modifications to eliminate system malfunctions.
- Collaboration: Confer with engineers or other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, or provide technical information.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Experience: 3 years of professional service
About the Role
SOLVERE is seeking Mechanical Engineer II to support the design, development, and integration of maritime electronic systems. Mechanical engineers in this role research, develop, design, manufacture, and test specialized enclosures, equipment racks, and mechanical interfaces for U.S. Navy navigation system platforms. NOTE: Mechanical Engineer is not a named Key Personnel LCAT in PWS. Personnel in this role may be billed under Engineering Technician V or VI per the Key Personnel table, or as non-key personnel under applicable NUWC Newport LCAT definitions (PWS). Per PWS, personnel shall be capable of performing prototype fabrication including metal bending, drilling, welding, plating/coating, painting, punching, and cutting at the contractors facility.
