Position Summary

The Mechanical Engineer will provide engineering skills to the Product Business Unit in the development of our methane emission detection equipment. Mechanical Engineer designs, prototypes, tests, documents, and debugs electromechanical products to support the successful launch of innovative products. This individual will use 3D CAD tools and apply drawing layout, dimensioning, and tolerancing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluates mechanical and electromechanical systems and products by conducting research and applying engineering principles in mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer, and materials science.
  • Develops mechanical and electromechanical products by analyzing customer requirements, evaluating manufacturing and assembly methods, selecting materials, and incorporating feedback from operators and stakeholders.
  • Applies design principles, when appropriate, for: Reliability, test, safety, manufacturability, assembly, inspection, user-friendliness, ergonomics, aesthetics, environment, and disassembly.
  • Brainstorms, models, and prototypes mechanical concepts using 3D CAD and additive manufacturing methods.
  • Ensures system and product quality by: Developing test methods and fixtures, Verifying & validating finished-product performance by evaluating durability, ergonomics, and serviceability, Collaborating with manufacturing & sales to ensure correct fabrication, assembly, and installation processes.
  • Improves manufacturing processes by designing, selecting, and modifying equipment used to fabricate, assemble, and install components.
  • Captures engineering support by responding to technical questions and requests from customers, sales teams, and internal stakeholders.
  • Supports compliance and protects company reputation by ensuring adherence to applicable government regulations and industry standards.

Knowledge, Skills, & Education

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or discipline complementary to instrumentation design and development.
  • 2-5 years in an R&D / Manufacturing / Engineering environment and/or job experience in instrumentation development.
  • Collaborating within a team environment.
  • Presenting technical information.
  • Skills in Microsoft Office, including Teams, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio, Excel, and Word.
  • SolidWorks 3D CAD and 2D Drawings.
  • Basic GD&T.
  • Environmental or field-use testing.
  • PLM or document management system.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • This position is based out of an office and normally takes place in an office or manufacturing environment. Other locations consist of customer sites, including outdoor locations related to the gas and utilities infrastructure.

  • Position generally requires sitting 70% of the time and standing/walking 30%. Occasionally requires lifting and carrying equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
