Mechanical Engineer - Hydropower 1
About the role
The role involves leading, designing, and managing new and upgraded projects on hydropower systems. This includes tasks such as hydro turbine condition assessments, hydraulic evaluations, finite element analysis (FEA) calculations, dam and water conveyance system design, generator evaluations, cooling systems, raw water and oil systems, fire protection, HVAC systems, instrumentation support, crane/hoist systems, and dam safety inspections.
Responsibilities
- Continuously develop knowledge and provide guidance on design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes, and B&V policies.
- Provide technical guidance to others regarding projects and disciplines.
- Independently apply knowledge and comply with B&Veatch quality program relative to assigned tasks.
- Support continuous improvement and change management efforts.
- Prepare a variety of complex engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projects.
- Perform complex research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection.
- Manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
- Apply advanced engineering techniques and analysis problems and methods.
- Delegating appropriate tasks to lower level team members to develop depth of project execution staff.
- Review lower level engineering work or assignments.
- Lead production teams; coordinate multiple discipline activity; serve as the responsible charge for a project.
- Communicate client interests and drivers to project team members and develop approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work.
- Support business development or pursuit activities and offer other services to clients.
- Actively foster knowledge management and provide mentoring.
- Assist with performance management process, mentoring, recognition, and any corrective actions required.
- Mentor lower level professionals and identify successors to train in the specifics of their role.
- May assist with resource management strategy and manage engineering resources for small groups of a single discipline.
- May have responsibility for some administrative tasks including ensuring policies, procedures and processes are effectively implemented and communicated for work group, ensuring adherence to corporate and division programs, approving timesheets and expense reports.
Qualifications
- Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from a recognized accredited program.
- Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of mechanical or systems engineering experience in power generating facilities or related fields.
- Previous experience with managing projects and/or programs in a utility power plant setting.
- Experience in design and operation support of conventional and pumped storage hydroelectric generation stations.
- Previous experience in a client facing role.

Pay
Salary Plan ENG: Engineering Job Grade 016
Schedule
This position would require working in a typical office environment. The position may entail prolonged periods of sitting and computer use, and the professional would ideally be able to maintain focus and attention to detail throughout the workday. The position may also be require physical tasks during site visits, including crouching, grasping, and standing/walking for extended periods of time. Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
