Responsibilities
- Support to the design, development and selection of basic hardware components utilizing fundamental mechanical engineering principles, theories and techniques.
- Design and development of specific elements of High-Speed IO Interconnect and Cable devices or components to meet specified design requirements.
- Perform Mechanical Analyses- Obtain working knowledge of company standard analysis tools. Perform basic static, dynamic and heat transfer analyses of mechanical structures, when required.
- Compile data for investigation by senior mechanical engineering personnel.
- Support Verification/Validation of Design- Support the fabrication and environmental testing of High-Speed IO Interconnect devices. Assist in the design and fabrication of prototype hardware. Support the environmental testing of hardware including vibration, shock, thermal, fatigue and others as required.
- Document results for review by senior engineering personnel.
- Prepare Documentation- Generate and review the technical content of drawings, engineering specifications, reports and other documentation associated with the mechanical design. Generate and present design review packages for internal and external audiences.
- Support Continuous Improvement- Conduct failure analysis of product returned from field and qualification failures. Lead customization efforts on assigned product lines when required.
- Lead sustainment efforts on assigned product lines- Provide Mechanical Engineering support to products in production. Manage material issues, perform root cause assessments of discovered issues. Perform analysis as required to verify validity of proposed solutions.
Qualifications
- BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering (MS preferred)
- 3-5 years of electromechanical product design/support experience
- Strong Mechanical Aptitude
- Familiarity with Structural and Thermal FEA software and capability
- Grasp of basic electrical theory
- Ability to support design and development of hardware to ensure requirements compliance
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and perform tolerance assessments
- Experience with ASME Y-14.5 is a definite plus
- Ability to perform basic mechanical analysis to ensure good design
- Proficiency with Solidworks 2018 or higher
- Ability to conduct experimentation and basic testing. Familiarity with basic measurement tools and multimeters
- Good communication skills and organizational skills
