As a Mechanical Engineer – Custom Machinery & Automation, you will: Design and engineer large‑scale, low‑volume mechanical systems including cranes, welded structures, and custom critical‑handling equipmentDevelop automation and robotic mechanisms for extreme‑duty lifting, motion, and precision‑handling applicationsLead mechanical design activities from concept through modeling, detailing, and release using SolidWorksTrack and manage project requirements, ensuring technical accuracy and on‑schedule executionFacilitate internal and customer design reviews, presenting concepts, engineering decisions, and progress updatesMentor junior engineers while collaborating closely with chief and principal engineers to refine design approachesProvide technical guidance to support new business initiatives and custom engineered‑to‑order lifting solutionsPartner with cross‑functional engineering groups to establish new design standards and contribute to continuous improvementSupport fabrication, assembly, installation, and commissioning of large mechanical systems, including occasional travel to customer sitesInnovate mechanical solutions for unique lifting, motion, and automation challenges not found in traditional factory environmentsWork collaboratively with suppliers and Applied partnersContribute to projects that impact communities in Roseville, Arden Hills, New Brighton, Mounds View, Vadnais Heights, Little Canada, North Oaks, White Bear Lake, Lino Lakes, and Blaine and the greater St. Paul metroApply your skills in a dynamic environment that values ownership and innovation QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering5–10+ years of experience in machine design, automation, heavy equipment, or large‑scale mechanical systemsProficiency in 3D CAD modeling; SolidWorks strongly preferredAbility to lead and manage complex machine or automation designs from concept through detailing and releaseDemonstrated ownership of engineering projects with a track record of driving them to completionStrong planning, organizational, and communication skillsExperience mentoring or guiding individuals or teams through mechanical design processesWillingness to travel for installation and commissioning support (typically <10%, periodically up to 25%)Capable of working independently and as a team memberStrong work ethic and unwavering integrityExcellent interpersonal skills and a learning mindsetCuriosity, problem solving, and analytical thinkingEffective verbal and written communicationDesire to work on a variety of projects ESTIMATED PAY RANGE Engineer I: $34.62–$40.38/hour Engineer II: $38.46–$44.23/hour Engineer III: $43.27–$49.04/hour Senior Engineer: $46.63–$53.85/hour Final compensation is based on experience, skills, and alignment with role expectations. Paid overtime may be available.
