We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer - Crimping to serve as a global technical leader supporting crimping technology from product development through manufacturing release. In this role, you will collaborate with product engineering, manufacturing, quality, tooling, and laboratory teams to improve product performance, drive process capability, and establish global crimping standards. The Crimping Engineering team at Molex Rochester Hills supports the development and advancement of crimping technologies used in industry-leading automotive and interconnect solutions. We partner closely with product engineering, manufacturing, quality, tooling, and laboratory teams to improve product performance, manufacturing capability, and customer satisfaction. Responsibilities
- Lead and support crimping activities throughout the product development lifecycle, from concept through manufacturing release
- Serve as the global subject matter expert for crimping processes, tooling, equipment, and application specifications
- Partner with product and tooling engineers to optimize designs, improve manufacturability, and reduce development cycle time
- Develop and standardize crimping processes, inspection methods, and procedures to improve measurement consistency and process repeatability
- Lead failure analysis investigations and drive effective E8D problem-solving efforts for crimp-related concerns
- Support customer quality initiatives by investigating technical issues, resolving quality notifications, and collaborating with internal and external customers
- Identify, evaluate, and implement inspection technologies, measurement systems, and manufacturing equipment that improve capability and efficiency
- Design, build, or source fixtures and tooling that enhance laboratory and manufacturing operations
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on product quality, equipment performance, safety, and operational excellence
- Provide technical training, mentoring, and knowledge sharing to global teams related to crimping standards, equipment operation, and failure analysis
- Collaborate with laboratory leadership to improve safety, efficiency, and technical capability
- Support technical purchasing activities related to crimp tooling, applicators, laboratory equipment, and supplies
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience supporting manufacturing processes, tooling, equipment, or product development activities
- Working knowledge of Siemens NX design software
- Experience analyzing technical problems and implementing effective solutions
Qualifications (Preferred)
- Experience with crimping processes, terminals, tooling, inspection methods, or related manufacturing technologies
- Experience leading structured problem-solving and corrective action initiatives, including E8D methodologies
- Knowledge of failure analysis techniques and root cause investigation methods
- Experience leading cross-functional technical discussions and influencing engineering decisions
