Mechanical Engineer Co-op/Intern

About the Role

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will work collaboratively and independently with highly qualified engineering professionals responsible for the design, production, and manufacturing of items in the recreational boating industry. You will be an integral member of an engineering team committed to delivering superior results, learning to own and manage assigned projects from inception to completion.

Responsibilities

• Support the mechanical design of various systems and components
• Assist with validation test plans and testing
• Complete time studies and assist with process improvements as well as labor balancing activities
• Utilize CAD software/SolidWorks
• Contribute to problem solving, cost reduction, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Consult with suppliers, customers, and internal departments to find solutions to problems

In addition to hands-on learning, you will acquire skills in:

• Selecting and applying standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria in a real-world, cross-functional environment
• Design, failure analysis, data reduction/analysis, documenting and authenticating testing results, and technical report writing

Projects

• Assist in implementation of a visual work instruction platform
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives

Requirements

• Current enrollment in a BS program with a major in Engineering
• Minimum second semester sophomore status with 48 completed credits
• Availability to work full-time (40 or more hours per week) through a full co-op term running January to August 2027 or June to December 2027, or for summer 2027
• Authorization to work in the United States immediately, without the need for sponsorship, now or in the future

Preferred Qualifications

• Creative ability with strong mechanical aptitude
• Basic office skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to enroll in a formalized co-op Program through your university
• Dependable, self-motivated, and engaged learner
• Boating, fishing, and/or marine industry experience (beneficial but not required)
• Good interpersonal skills

Schedule

• Co-op Dates: January 2027 – August 2027 or May 2027 – December 2027
• Internship options: January – April 2027 or August – December 2027
• Full 40-hour work week expected

Pay

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $27.00 per hour. The actual hourly rate offered will vary depending on multiple factors including year in school/credits earned, degree, job-related knowledge/skills, relevant experience, business needs, and geographic location.

You will work alongside experienced professionals, applying academic knowledge to real-world tasks in a supportive, collaborative, and learning-conducive environment. Co-ops and interns typically work on specific projects or tasks contributing to the organization’s goals, ranging from supporting larger projects to handling smaller, individual assignments. Feedback and performance reviews are provided throughout the assignment to help interns understand their progress and areas for improvement.
