Mechanical Engineer

This role on the Dynapower Defense team involves collaborative development of power conversion military products that exceed customer expectations. The successful candidate will apply military product development expertise to deliver mechanically sound, verified, and compliant designs, leveraging a blend of experimental, numerical (simulation), and analytical skills. Knowledge of the military design process (MIL-917E) and experience with CDR and PDR processes is preferred. Candidates with experience developing high-power energy products will be prioritized.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage engineering fundamentals and organizational knowledge to make sound decisions on complex technical issues.
  • Apply a detailed understanding of the market and its implications for business.
  • Proactively challenge and drive the organization to deliver improved quality and performance in engineering design.
  • Participate in and drive product strategy.
  • Maintain product documentation, including drawings and specifications.
  • Engage in direct interaction with customers to solicit product specifications, schedule expectations, and budget requirements.
  • Conduct corrosion research and welding characterization, with a strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials, mechanics, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of basic electrical circuits, microelectronic assembly, statistical methods, process control fundamentals, and product test processes.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with manufacturing methods such as welding, brazing, soldering, adhesive bonding, machining, stamping, molding, and forming.
  • Lead mechanical design activities while participating on cross-functional New Product Development (NPD) teams.
  • Assist with design prototype builds and production validation activities in collaboration with manufacturing, quality, and supply teams.
  • Support design, fabrication, modification, and evaluation in manufacturing operations, including machining, metal forming, plastics processing, welding, brazing, assembly, and material handling.

Requirements

  • A university degree (e.g., Bachelor’s degree) or equivalent relevant work experience.

Qualifications

  • Experience developing products for the U.S. Department of Defense; experience with NAVSEA shipboard products preferred.
  • Experience participating in and/or guiding projects through Preliminary Design Review (PDR) and Critical Design Review (CDR) milestones as defined in MIL-917E.
  • Proficiency with modeling and simulation tools including Solidworks, EPDM, FEA, CFD, thermal analysis, and mechanical shock/vibration analysis preferred.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical drafting standards, GD&T (ASME Y14.5), tolerance analysis, and the development of production-ready mechanical drawings from solid models preferred.
  • Understanding of creepage and clearance requirements for medium-voltage products is highly desirable.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance to engineers, technicians, suppliers, and external partners while effectively communicating engineering concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders preferred.
  • Experience with high-power energy conversion systems, power electronics packaging, or military power systems is preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.
  • Eligibility to obtain authorization under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR); non-U.S. persons may not be eligible.

Pay

Base Salary Range: $104,560.00 - $156,840.00 USD annually.
