Rockstar is recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer for a client that designs and manufactures custom industrial equipment, delivering tailored solutions from concept through installation. The company is backed by a team of skilled engineers and production professionals dedicated to building high-quality custom machinery for a wide range of industrial applications. Their lean, collaborative environment enables them to move quickly while maintaining exceptional engineering and manufacturing standards.

About the Role

The Mechanical Engineer will leverage leadership skills and multitasking abilities to work in a team environment while providing engineering and project management for the design and manufacture of custom industrial equipment—from initial concept through manufacturing, installation, and startup at the customer's facility. Some travel may be required. This role also supports the Sales Department with engineering for special projects and assists the Production Department with manufacturing processes and problem-solving.

Responsibilities

  • Manage engineering projects from concept through manufacturing, installation, and startup.
  • Develop new ideas and concepts for custom industrial equipment.
  • Design, specify, and calculate mechanical systems using sound engineering principles (mechanics of materials, statics, dynamics, machine design).
  • Design for efficient manufacturing using optimal materials and processes.
  • Design and specify hydraulic components and schematics.
  • Design and specify pneumatic controls and logic.
  • Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Develop complete 3D models and production drawing packages using SolidWorks, including:
    • Sheet metal and metal tubing.
    • 3D sketching (hose/cable routing).
    • Weldments and assemblies.
    • DWGs and DXFs.
  • Troubleshoot and debug manufacturing processes and equipment both in-house and in the field.
  • Collaborate with the Sales Department and customers to solve application problems, recommend equipment, and estimate project costs.
  • Ensure proposed solutions can be engineered, manufactured, and delivered within project schedules and budget.
  • Provide conceptual ideas and engineering guidance to internal design team members throughout project development.
  • Evaluate designs for compliance with applicable safety and engineering standards (ANSI/SIA, OSHA, NEC, etc.).
  • Perform evaluation and performance testing of final designs according to applicable standards.
  • Oversee installation of large projects and provide field engineering support as required.
  • Assist business developers with large quotations and project coordination.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year engineering college or university with a minimum of 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in similar engineering positions is a plus.
  • Excellent technical and computer skills, including proficiency in SolidWorks and FEA.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously with strong prioritization and deadline management.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and ownership mentality for creative projects.
  • Minimal travel as required (occasional site visits for installation and startup).
  • English as a first language.

Skills

  • Excellent relationship-building and customer service skills.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and analytical thinking.
  • Self-directed, detail-oriented, and effective communicator.
  • Strong accuracy, accountability, and conflict resolution skills.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent sitting for design work, engineering calculations, and documentation.
  • Extended computer use for CAD modeling, FEA analysis, and technical documentation.
  • Manual dexterity for handling tools, testing, and occasional assembly.
  • Occasional travel to customer sites, including climbing, bending, and working in confined spaces.
  • Occasional lifting of components, tools, or prototypes (typically up to 25-50 lbs).
  • High visual acuity for detailed engineering work, reading schematics, and inspecting components.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, and gloves during shop and field work.

Mental Demands

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical systems and resolve engineering or manufacturing issues.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure compliance with safety standards and design accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously from concept through installation.
  • Strong analytical thinking for engineering calculations, FEA, and design optimization.
  • Excellent communication skills when working with internal teams, customers, and vendors.
  • Sound decision-making under pressure while prioritizing tasks and resolving conflicts.
  • Commitment to continuous learning in engineering tools, safety regulations, and industry standards.
  • Strong collaboration skills with Sales, Production, and Design teams.

Work Environment

  • Primarily based in an office and manufacturing facility with frequent collaboration between engineering and production teams.
  • Occasional travel to customer sites for installation, startup, and troubleshooting.
  • Moderate office noise with higher noise levels in manufacturing areas (hearing protection may be required).
  • Compliance with OSHA, ANSI/SIA, NEC, and other applicable safety standards.
  • Fast-paced, deadline-driven environment requiring adaptability and strong focus.
  • Frequent cross-functional collaboration with Sales, Production, and customers.
  • Regular exposure to manufacturing processes, welding operations, and mechanical systems during inspections and troubleshooting.
