About the role
The Mechanical Engineer leads complex engineering projects from inception to completion, ensuring all objectives are met. This position develops new standard products and complete automation systems—from concept design through implementation into production—by analyzing requirements, designing components, and validating designs through testing. The role involves system troubleshooting, evaluating technological developments, and investigating new engineering techniques, components, processes, and materials.
Responsibilities
- Develop (design, layout, conceptualize, and cost) new products and systems from concept through production.
- Assist with development, documentation, and cost estimates for product functional and design specifications.
- Develop automation system designs that exceed customer needs while leveraging existing products and Engineering Design Standards.
- Communicate effectively with customers, sales teams, applications experts, machine builders, technical experts, and site leadership to achieve business objectives.
- Make reasonable time estimates for designs, adjust personal schedules, and seek assistance to complete tasks on time.
- Innovate solutions and develop products, processes, and systems based on customer and business needs.
- Perform mechanical design and development of component parts and assemblies.
- Understand integration of mechanical systems with electrical and software control systems, identifying design weaknesses.
- Assist with assembly, fine-tuning, customer acceptance testing, and root-cause troubleshooting of performance issues, incorporating lessons-learned into standards and processes.
- Generate engineering documentation, including product drawings and manuals.
- Coordinate new product introduction and training with cross-functional departments (manufacturing, product management, sales, service).
- Support existing standard products with design improvements.
- Analyze and test new products and enhancements for design validation.
- Work in cross-functional teams with mechanical/electrical engineers, technicians, machine builders, sourcing professionals, project managers, and product managers.
- Provide guidance and training to other engineers and technical staff.
- Promote a safe and healthy working environment in alignment with company EHS programs.
- Travel to customer sites and interface with internal resources to troubleshoot issues as needed.
- Maintain focus on continuous improvement by applying 80/20, PLS, and USa principles, and recommend process improvements to management.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field (required).
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in Mechanical Design or a related field.
- Design experience with industrial automation and machine design (required).
- Excellent root-cause problem-solving skills, attention to detail, ability to work to timelines, and strong decision-making.
- Strong aptitude in mechanics, including components, machines, and complex automation systems.
- Experience with tolerance stack-ups, fixturing, repeatability, dynamic effects, motion control, and risk analysis.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD tools, specifically SolidWorks (required).
- Familiarity with ANSI, UL, CSA, CE, and other design standards for industrial equipment.
- Strong teamwork and project leadership skills.
- Ability to build rapport with customers and work under pressure with project deadlines.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel).
Physical/Visual Demands
- Frequently required to talk, hear, sit, and type; occasionally twist/turn, reach above shoulder, stand, walk, bend, grasp, lift, stretch, and squat.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Specific vision abilities required: concentrated attention, close/far vision, depth perception, color vision, and ability to bring objects into sharp focus.
Working Conditions
- Typical office environment (80%) and plant conditions (20%).
- Travel as needed.

Pay
$115,000–$130,000 per year.
