Mechanical Engineer
GameChange Solar is a global leader in the solar racking and tracker industry, known for designing the fastest installing and most cost-effective products. We’re looking for a seasoned Mechanical Engineer with experience in national or international technical standards, or from related industries such as automotive, high-rise steel, or bridge construction. This role offers the opportunity to directly impact our fast-growing company by identifying issues, developing solutions, and designing new systems that reduce material and labor costs.
About the role
The ideal candidate thrives on solving complex, multi-layered problems, can recreate and troubleshoot field issues, and is skilled at developing and running tests and protocols to improve product performance. You’ll create system blueprints and parts, design solar components for new and existing structures, and manage the process from concept through validation, performance testing, and risk assessment. This position includes site visits, supports sales order execution and field projects, and reports directly to the Director of Research, Development and Innovation.
Responsibilities
- Develop design specifications and functional requirements for testing of solar energy systems and their components.
- Evaluate specifications, recommend engineering or manufacturing changes to complete solar design goals.
- Create mechanical diagrams and connection diagrams for solar structural systems using CAD and other software.
- Work both outdoors and indoors, comfortable in all-weather elements.
- Comply with all OSHA, state, and federal code requirements, job site, and construction safety procedures.
- Provide technical guidance and support to engineering teams during installation, start-up, testing, system commissioning, or performance monitoring.
- Develop SOPs, quality, or safety standards for solar installation implementation.
- Create reports of findings for completed testing.
- Perform technical testing and analysis to determine system components that are more cost-effective, easier to produce, or easier to install.
- Assist management to complete task assignments in a timely manner and request resources as needed.
- Travel to other sites within driving distance with management or independently as needed.
- Work both as a team member or independently, and at times under pressure.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering or another technical degree.
- Blueprint reading proficiency.
- Strong computer/software/networking skills (MS Office required).
- OSHA 10 certification preferred.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong integrity, commitment, and sense of urgency.
- Construction or solar experience and trade/tool knowledge preferred.
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License (clean record).
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
