On-siteEngineering$120k–$140k/yrFull-time

Description

The Mechanical Engineer owns the end-to-end design, prototyping, and production support of electronic enclosures, operating with moderate independence. Because this is a Level III position, responsibilities span consumer-style devices, rack-mounted server chassis, and rugged outdoor enclosures, alongside providing technical guidance to junior team members and managing light physical prototype assembly and occasional travel. To be successful, candidates must combine strong SolidWorks proficiency with hands-on expertise in designing manufacturable parts using sheet metal, machined components, plastics, extrusions, die-cast aluminum, and seals. Success relies on delivering complete, production-ready designs with minimal supervision, identifying technical risks early, collaborating effectively across disciplines, and exercising sound judgment on when to escalate cost, schedule, or safety risks.

Responsibilities

  • Design product enclosures, assemblies, and mechanical components using SolidWorks.
  • Develop enclosure concepts for:
    • Consumer-electronics-style products requiring compact packaging, refined appearance, and high-quality fit and finish.
    • Rack-mounted and standalone server chassis.
    • Rugged outdoor server and electronics enclosures exposed to weather, dust, moisture, temperature extremes, vibration, and physical impact.
  • Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, manufacturing drawings, bills of materials, and product documentation.
  • Design sheet-metal parts and assemblies, including bends, formed features, fastening methods, weldments, and hardware selection.
  • Provide technical guidance and design feedback to junior engineers, technicians, and CAD designers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Typically four or more years of relevant mechanical product-design experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Practical knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing in accordance with ASME Y14.5 or a comparable standard.
  • Understanding of product-development processes from initial requirements through design, prototype, verification, release, and production.
  • Advanced working proficiency with SolidWorks, including:
    • Complex part modeling.
    • Large assemblies.
    • Sheet-metal design.
    • Configurations and design tables.
    • Detailed engineering drawings.
    • SolidWorks PDM or a comparable product-data-management system.

Pay

The compensation for this full time salaried role ranges between $120,000-$140,000. Individual compensation packages are based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, training, and market conditions.
