About the role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will model automotive LED lighting components and build full lamp assemblies in SolidWorks, guiding projects from planning through production. You will design and support all steps of the engineering and manufacturing process, turning customer feedback and requirements into new product ideas.
Responsibilities
- 3D modeling and design of components and assemblies for automotive lamps and lighting.
- Design responsibility for brackets (sheet metal, plastic, and 3D printed), mounting hardware, wire harnesses, housings (metal and plastic), seals, and grommets.
- Integration of designed components into full assemblies, including knowledge of exploded views and BOM tables.
- Operate in-house tools for design validation, including 3D scanning (Romer CMM), 3D printing, and water jet.
- Complete first article inspection reports for initial tooled samples, including dimensional review and validation testing.
- Collaborate with the engineering team to review product feasibility, balancing internal and external customer requirements.
- Offer and receive feedback across departments to meet goals for cosmetics, quality, and performance.
- Focus on DFM (Design for Manufacturing), quality improvements, BOM/weight/cost reduction, and efficiency initiatives.
- Communicate technical product status and design opportunities to management.
Requirements
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or related degree.
- 3–5 years of SolidWorks modeling experience.
- Design experience with plastic injection and/or die-cast molded parts.
- Design experience with sheet metal parts.
- Familiarity with designing for 3D printing and knowledge of 3D printing methods.
- Knowledge of product development, testing, and validation processes.
- Hands-on experience designing products, creating prototypes, physical assemblies, and/or manufacturing support.
- Automotive enthusiast or automotive industry experience (specific knowledge of automotive lamps is a plus).
- Self-starter with minimal supervision required; high attention to detail and quality of work.
- Highly organized with strong collaboration skills to meet project requirements.
- Strong time management and planning skills to meet challenging deadlines.
- On-site attendance required; position is not remote.
Schedule
Monday through Friday, 7:30 am – 4 pm.
Pay
Competitive salary based on experience: $60,000–90,000 per year.
