Deluxe · St Paul, MN · 3 wk ago
Engineering$88k–$100k/yrFull-time

Position Summary

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design, develop, improve, test, and maintain equipment supporting Deluxe's fulfillment operations. This role spans the full design spectrum — from a single custom bracket to a complete machine — and covers the full product lifecycle from CAD concept through hands-on build, installation, and field deployment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD across the full complexity spectrum — from simple fabricated parts and brackets to complete custom machines and integrated equipment systems.

  • Develop detailed engineering drawings and design documentation suitable for fabrication by internal teams or outside vendors; maintain archived design files for long-term support.

  • Research and evaluate market-available print, packaging, and fulfillment equipment; perform detailed calculations to establish manufacturing, construction, and installation standards.

  • Source and specify custom and off-the-shelf components; coordinate procurement for beta and production equipment projects.

  • Test and validate OEM and internal equipment designs for throughput, quality, and robustness — from prototype through production installation.

  • Coordinate and manage vendor relationships; evaluate supplier capabilities and lead vendor qualification activities.

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation including SOPs, work instructions, and equipment specifications.

  • Direct and train individuals supporting engineering projects and equipment operations.

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through educational workshops, professional publications, and industry trade shows.

  • Act as a deep technical escalation resource within ESS — engaged when the team has exhausted standard troubleshooting and needs specialized mechanical or design expertise to resolve a critical equipment issue.

  • Provide remote or on-site escalation support as needed; travel to affected facilities when the situation requires hands-on assessment or intervention.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and 3 years of relevant experience, OR Associate’s degree in a related technical field and 5 years of relevant manufacturing engineering experience, OR High School diploma/GED and 7 years of direct relevant experience

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software with a demonstrated design-to-build portfolio

  • Comfortable serving as an internal escalation resource for the ESS team on critical equipment issues, including occasional remote or on-site response as needed

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • A valid passport or ability to obtain one (role requires travel to Canada)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (ME degree strongly preferred)

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks; our team works in SolidWorks and candidates with direct experience will be able to contribute immediately

  • Proven CAD portfolio demonstrating design-to-build projects across varying complexity levels

  • Experience writing equipment specifications and technical requirement documents

  • Experience in systems integration — connecting mechanical, electrical, and controls subsystems into cohesive equipment solutions

  • Experience in the conventional and/or digital printing industry

  • Vendor coordination experience including sourcing, quoting, and supplier management

  • Project management experience; PMP or equivalent a plus

  • Working knowledge of computer and electrical controls

  • Willingness and ability to work hands-on with equipment on the production floor

Compensation

The compensation range for this position is $88,000.00 - $100,000.00 annually. This position will be eligible for commission or an annual performance incentive plan. The base pay actually offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, experience and take into account internal equity.

Benefits

  • Healthcare (Medical, Dental, Vision)

  • Paid Time Off, Volunteer Time Off, and Holidays

  • Employer-Matched Retirement Plan

  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan

  • Short-Term and Long-Term Disability

  • Infertility Treatment, Adoption and Surrogacy Assistance

  • Tuition Reimbursement
