Mechanical Engineer

About the role

General Dynamics Mission Systems is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to support an urgent defense systems development program. This position focuses on electronics packaging, custom cable design, mechanical assemblies, and the integration of circuit boards and electronic systems.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical packaging for custom circuit boards and electronic assemblies.
• Design mechanical components and assemblies surrounding electronic systems.
• Develop and route custom cables and cable assemblies.
• Create 3D CAD models and detailed mechanical drawings.
• Use Creo or comparable CAD software.
• Support first-design hardware and development materials.
• Work with electrical, mechanical, and systems engineers on integration.
• Solve fit, form, packaging, and mechanical interface challenges.
• Support prototypes, fabrication, testing, and design modifications.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM field with 2+ years of relevant experience, or Master's degree with 6+ months relevant experience.
• Hands-on cable or custom cable design experience.
• 3D CAD experience.
• Mechanical component or assembly design experience.
• Electronics packaging or electromechanical integration experience.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• US Citizenship.
• Ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance.
• Ability to work 100% onsite in Pittsfield, MA.

• Active Secret clearance.
• Aerospace/defense experience.
• Weapons systems experience.
• Electronics packaging experience.
• Prototype development experience.
• Virginia-class submarine experience.
• DoD or military experience is not required.

Pay

$48–$60/hour W2

Schedule

Contract: 6 months initially, with strong potential to extend or convert. Work schedule: 9/80.
