About the role

Serves as Mechanical Engineer in DLA Chief of Staff, DLA Installation Management (DM), Management Support Office (DS-M), Task Force Support Office (TFSO - HH-SMB), Engineering Division.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates transitions through the project execution phase and serves as Project Manager as well as a key resource during all stages of project implementation.
  • Manages high level mechanical engineering programs and projects and provides advice to a diverse group of engineers, scientists, and trades contractors.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders and leads discussions regarding project requirements, needs, limitations, constraints, and functionality to determine the most economical solution to meet the operational needs of the program occupants.
  • Manages all aspects of high level engineering and construction programs'/project's finances and expenditures for the client including preparation, negotiation, presentation, approval, and communication of pricing.
  • Manages assigned design, construction and alteration projects.
  • Negotiates and coordinates project plans, budget objectives, and schedules with management of affected customer agencies to establish and/or manage customer expectations.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Tour of Duty: Set Schedule.
  • Security Requirements: Required to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance with access to SCI and SAPs).
  • Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability or fitness determination, where reciprocity cannot be applied; unfavorably adjudicated background checks will be grounds for removal.
  • Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Exempt.
  • Selectees are required to have a REAL ID or other acceptable identification documents to access certain federal facilities.
  • This is a Mission Essential (ME) position. The incumbent may be required to report to work in the event of a natural disaster, inclement weather, or crisis.

Qualifications

  • Basic Requirement: A bachelor's degree or higher in professional engineering.
  • Specialized Experience: Leading complex mechanical and structural design analyses, utilizing finite element analysis (FEA) to resolve structural stress and shock design problems.
  • Coordinating all project phases from initial layout and site selection to final structural code compliance and on-site engineering inspections.
  • Negotiating contract proposals and technical terms with private-sector firms and DoD construction agents.
  • Managing program finances and presenting budgets to senior officials.
