Convergix is a global automation systems integrator serving diverse end markets. We design, build, test, and integrate custom solutions to automate our customers’ operations with a focus on solving unique challenges that others struggle to address. As a team, we are on an improvement journey in pursuit of our vision: to become the ultimate trusted partner to our customers, capable of solving any industrial automation challenge with our passionate people, world‑renowned processes and diverse experience.
The Role
Join a fast‑paced, leading‑edge automation equipment design and manufacturing company. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will bring industrial machinery concepts to life through detailed mechanical design for industrial automation and manufacturing equipment. Working from the machine concept and architecture set by the Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will develop practical, manufacturable designs that meet customer specifications and performance, durability, schedule, and cost targets. This position reports to the Mechanical Engineering Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed mechanical designs for automated manufacturing equipment from approved concepts and customer specifications, using SolidWorks.
- Create 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing‑ready drawings, applying GD&T where appropriate.
- Perform sizing, strength, and design calculations to confirm designs meet performance and durability requirements.
- Design to customer specifications and the sold budget, balancing technical function with cost, schedule, and project profitability.
- Support the Lead Mechanical Engineer on project execution, and raise risks to schedule, budget, or scope early.
- Collaborate with other disciplines on the project team, such as controls, electrical, and build teams.
- Clearly communicate technical problems and proposed solutions to teammates and, as needed, customers and vendors.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Journeyman Tool Maker.
- Approximately 2–3+ years of experience in mechanical system design.
- Strong SolidWorks experience, including detailed part, assembly, and drawing work.
- Strong math aptitude and ability to perform sizing and strength calculations.
- Understanding of mechanical systems and a hands‑on approach.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical problems and solutions to engineers, customers, and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Understanding of the business impact of engineering decisions, with awareness of schedules, budgets, and project profitability, not just technical functionality.
- Organizational/prioritization and creative problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in cross‑functional teams.
- Proficient in MS Office.
- Reliable transportation and the ability to travel; travel to customer/vendor facilities will be very limited.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in automation, assembly automation, or similar machine design environments.
- Prior design experience with automation, systems integration, or custom equipment companies.
- Experience with GD&T (a significant plus).
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to feel objects, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, talk and hear.
- Occasionally lifts or moves up to 25 pounds.
