Founded in 1975, BR+A Consulting Engineers maintains a total staff of over 500 employees located at our main office in Boston and branch offices in New York, NY; Philadelphia, PA; Vienna, VA (Washington, DC); Coral Gables, FL (Miami); Chicago, IL; St. Louis, MO; Tampa, FL; Charlotte, NC; Charleston, SC; Houston, TX; New Haven, CT; Los Angeles, CA; and Toronto. BR+A provides state-of-the-art integrated and coordinated mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection consulting engineering, technology systems design, lighting design, and building commissioning services. BR+A is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer in our Houston, TX office.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering high-quality designs and deliverables on technically challenging projects
  • Managing projects, writing proposals, maintaining positive client relationships
  • Performing advanced heating and cooling load calculations with Trace or HAP
  • Developing sections and elevations of complex ductwork and piping areas
  • Developing equipment room sizes during SD and DD phases
  • Editing specifications to reflect the project requirements
  • Developing air and water flows
  • Understanding fan and pump curves to properly select equipment for application
  • Using the psychrometric chart properly for any HVAC system
  • Understanding work planning and managing the design process to the available hours in the work plan
  • Understanding the proper scope of SD, DD, CD level documents and delivering appropriate documentation
  • Modifying sequences of operations for AHU’s, CHW and HW systems
  • Understanding both constant and variable flow systems, and properly applying equipment
  • Meeting with contractors during the bid phase to review the design details
  • Performing field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projects

Requirements

  • Strongly motivated, well organized, and shows professional initiative
  • The ability to take ownership of assignments and perform well both independently and as part of the project team is necessary
  • A strong working knowledge of Revit

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • PE License
  • 10-15 years of relevant experience
